In past seasons, I have posted the first day and had a jump on the reading load right out of the gate. That has changed for me this time around and those handful of days of not reading but writing...have absolutely affected how much I can physically read and comment on before the polls close!

It's interesting to me how many of us are talking about being sidelined by "real life" and I know that somewhere in there is a statistical truth that simply makes total sense. I'm not quite understanding it yet....I know in my case my real life situation is a first for me...but in years past I've had real life situations (I'm a mother of a special needs child) but that didn't take me so far out of LiveJournal as I am now being pulled. Again, trying to sort all of the facts from the impressions and come to a conclusion.

I think I get what you're saying: I don't know if I'd call it a statistical truth, but there is a truth there somewhere.

...but in years past I've had real life situations (I'm a mother of a special needs child) but that didn't take me so far out of LiveJournal as I am now being pulled.

Back when we were caring for my mother I'd post multiple times a day. So did a lot of other people. This was before FB, of course, where you'd read/write long involved entries and/or comments and conversations would freely flow from that. I've seen dribs and drabs of that attempting to return here on LJ but it doesn't catch hold as easily as it used to. I mean, look at us here in the GR! Others have chimed in but you and I are the primary conversationalists in this thread

I find the more pervasive social media has grown, the more reluctant people want to post something just on the chance that *somebody* could link whatever they post to them IRL. I get that. That's why I don't mention LJ or Idol at all on Facebook.

It's a good theory. I don't do any other social media but I can envision what you're saying. I do think folks have spread themselves too thin across the mediums...But that doesn't really explain where the WRITERS have gotten themselves off to!
