Green Room - Week 7 - Day 6

I spent all morning and into the afternoon in a meeting, looking at spreadsheets.

Want to keep me *extra* excited? Have me go over spreadsheets.

Want something that *actually* keeps my interest? Here's a poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/976026.html

What about you? What about your job makes you want to put your head into an oven?

And again: Frist.
Right now, I'm trying to figure out why the same data extract program reported different policy premium values on different dates in the past. The data didn't change and the program wasn't changed... so it should have reported the same numbers each time... yet it didn't.

So I have an untraceable error which makes no freaking sense. Joy. Rapture.

First? -- Nope, second. :-s

Pretty much everything about my job lately... but the worst is when the boss says, "I know this isn't really your job, but...."

I used to work in a zoo, and it's a running gag that zookeeper job postings all include the phrase "and other duties as required" at the end of the list of requirements of the job. It's just an all encompassing clause, so whenever my boss would pull that "hey can you do this crazy task that has nothing to do with your usual responsibilities?" we'd sigh, and go, "other duties as required?" and he'd repeat the phrase. It was kind of funny, because it was tongue in cheek, but there's definitely an air of this guy when that happens:

Getting asked the same questions over and over because people don't want to read the directions or can't follow simple instructions makes me nuts.

Also, I'm not getting most of the notifications from LJ, which is also driving me nuts. I almost missed seeing topic 7 because of it!

I'm usually pretty happy at my job these days...The school cafeteria menu choices could use a little help though....

There's one day a week I usually have four meetings, all of which could be taken care of in under fifteen minutes, and all of which usually drag on for an hour.

I pass the time doodling in a notebook and praying for an asteroid, honestly.

The invariableness of the client with whom you give a gentleman's handshake instead of a contract being the client who fucks you. It's astonishing.

And it's almost always someone you thought of as a friend, isn't it, which is why you might have considered the handshake deal or felt shamed into agreeing to it. :(

You got it. Or at least someone you respected. And trusted.

Almost everything about my job makes me want to put my head in an oven.

Right now though?

The fact that my boss just changed my hours on Sunday. I was working 10:00-6:00 and now he wants me to work 4:00-12:00. I have a second job that I work Monday mornings, and I have to be there at 7:45.

So basically I work until midnight Sunday night and then have to open at my second job Monday mornings at 7:45. Oh, and I work until 9:00pm Mondays.

Spreadsheets are evil.

The fact that there's nothing to do with half the building down for renovation combined with the fact that one of the people in my department quit showing up for work this week.

Currently? The woman we hired last year into a position above me making stupid math errors. You have the CPA, lady, you should get it right.

Spreadsheets can also be beautiful, Gary.

"Spreadsheets can also be beautiful, Gary."

*kicks you*

This is an unnerving thread right now, on the precipice of potential new work! (like, eek, what's going to make me want to smack a jerk?)

Current job is all right, just bores me when the kid I watch wants to play the same thing repeatedly and then goes, "but no, that doesn't work because..." (etc, repeat, repeat) for every single thing I propose in our games of pretend. It sounds dumb even writing that out...
