Green Room - Week 2 - Day 6

The poll is now up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/956559.html

Yes, there are a lot of byes. But there are also a lot of entries, and I prefer to concentrate on the positive!

Which means that there are a lot of really good entries out there that need your support. I hope you take the time to give it!

Work has been "interesting".

It seems to be a weird phase, because this crops back up every few months in ways that I've *never* seen it before. Maybe I'm just paying more attention now than I have before and this is *every* office. But there definitely seems a confusion/almost irritation at times that I won't take sides and join in. I just want to ignore everyone and run Idol... oh, I mean, *do my work*, and be left alone. But everyone else seems to want to be in everyone else's business.

Monday is the day I take for myself. Home with the kids is a 24/7 job, but now that Katey is in school I have some time to myself. Monday's are me days. Now, if only I could do what I want and not the few things I need to today, it would be perfect!

Oh no you posted this early today so I can't be first! You always seem to post it riiiight when I get into work so I can steal first from all of you : ).

I guess you all want to make it easy this week in terms of reading XD. I bet there will be a bunch of entries next week so we don't have a massive bye-outage.
Dec. 5th, 2016 02:28 pm (UTC)
I'm hoping that's the case. But I'm braced for 2-3 weeks of large bye-outs.

I'm just home from work today. Yes it's 8:0am. I got my holiday shopping done before I left the house yesterday so that's a good thing. My dog decided that last night was the time to act out and dumped her wwater dish all over and chewed up several things she knocked offf the coffee table in the living room. And yes, the W and F keys sometimes stick on this keyboard...

I'm covering the front desk at work right now, and man it's cold up here!! Fortunately I'm taking off the rest of the week because we are heading to Florida for a family reunion and to go to Universal, yay! I'll also have more reading time, huzzah.

A lot of byes, and about 28 people are threatened by bye-out during the usual bye-out week 3 :/.
Dec. 5th, 2016 02:44 pm (UTC)
Eyeballing it, I thought it was 26. (I'll check again though, to make sure).

Of those, 16-17 IMO are "for sure" bye-outs. If the number keeps that low in Week 3, I'd be happy.

Good News / Bad News
GOOD NEWS: A major issue on a project I manage at my job has *FINALLY* been cleared up, so I (probably) won't get fired.

BAD NEWS: I'm utterly convinced I'm going to get voted out this week -- I feel my story is too long for this early in LJI, and that the ending won't have the emotional impact I was hoping for because the readers aren't as familiar with the two central characters. That, and I just didn't have the time to polish the story the way I would have liked. But it was the only story I could think of that fit the prompt.

*SIGH* I always second-guess myself about my writing, but it's especially bad right now...

RE: Good News / Bad News
I'm right there with you on the anxiety thing- although that's my normal state when polling starts. Your piece is NOT too long! And I enjoyed it!

2016 has been a year about taking sides. I applaud your neutrality in office politiks!

Just found out that the Department Director "decided to resign". Not a shock, but it's going to send ripples down the ranks.

It's been one of those 'Putting out a million fires" kind of mornings. I need/want to work on my cookie storytime, but instead I am packing coffee carafes to send to headquarters, creating online surveys about our annual Christmas party and printing potluck sign up sheets.

I think I'm in a bit of a mood actually...and I am four days into an eight day work week. Wait! I'm halfway to a three day weekend, woot!

I found out yesterday that an e-friend from another site died suddenly over the weekend and I've been reeling ever since. This week can go ahead and kiss my grits.

Mondays are my 14-hour work days so I'm...coping. With lots of coffee. I'm trying to avoid certain coworkers because their questions are the same questions they asked me the week before and the week before that and the week before that and for some reason they think the answers are somehow going to change.

I met a little girl legally named Bubblicos this month. Pretty sure this means the endtimes have come.

Writing more m/m romance for little profit and extra fun though!

Yay for writing for both fun AND profit! Do you share this naughty nom de plume?

Gary, are you sure you are not working in my office? I spend a good chunk of time avoiding the drama. People seem to feed on it and I don't want any part of it. Good luck!

My husband is away this week so I hope that means I'll have more time to get through the entries, especially since there're all these byes. I haven't even had time to reply to the comments on my entry yet, but I should probably be reading the entries first anyway.

My weekend was crazy busy but also a lot of fun because I went to my first ever Supernatural convention. I've loved the show since the beginning, so getting to have my photo taken with Jensen Ackles was definitely a highlight of, um, probably my entire life. XD I'm going to have to blog about it at some point when I actually have time.

Work WHUMPHED me with a bunch of deadlines last week. I started my Idol piece as soon as the topic went up, but I blanked that it was due by noon my time Sunday (my brain went, "3PM, OK, we can do that!"), and after spending Friday/Saturday down with a nasty infection, I woke up Sunday, did the normal things, and came home just in time to post that I had to take a bye because eek!

That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it. :P

I'm about to head back into the office myself. I'd be on the way already but I'm hoping the rain will slack off for a bit and make the drive less scary.

Work politics and the shifting cultures of work are such fascinating topics that could be really fun to explore in idol, but I'm afraid to go there much. Even if you invent things wholly, once you put them out there people might make assumptions about where you're coming from. I mean, I guess that's always a danger, with any topic, but the work stuff seems both attractive to write about and like extra dangerous ground.
