Green Room - Week 1 - Day 5

Your first entries are due tomorrow: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/951685.html

How is everyone doing with that?

I haven't said this before, but it's important. Or at least "important". Make sure to start reading as soon as you can. Don't wait for the poll. Because you're never going to have enough time to finish everything in a poll - something is going to come up. But if you give yourself that head-start, it will be easier.

I'll also give you the heads-up, for those who don't know, that the first poll will probably take me the longest to set up. I'm almost caught up with everything I need to do. But it's also Survivor night (I'm just saying!), and the first poll always takes the longest to put together because it's completely from scratch.

If you still need a little help and encouragement - the Work Room is still open: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/951867.html

Tomorrow is also the deadline to sign-up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/945807.html If you sign-up, and don't submit an entry for the week, that's OK. BUT you will be using one of the two "byes" that you have been given to start the game. There are some people who enjoy working without a net though!

So - other than post-election stuff - what news stories have you been following that other folks might have missed? Anything good/interesting happening out there?

I haven't been following much in the news that isn't post election. Our (NC) sitting governor is trying to hold on to his seat despite being down some 7,000 votes now - he's accusing election boards of voter fraud (his party is majority in control of the election boards and most of the election boards are displeased with this turn of events).

Also, following the horror out of Standing Rock.

Mostly, at this point trying to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Things are difficult.

Hi All! Sorry I've been quiet these past few days. I had to make a couple of decisions which will be explained in my entry. I did have a snow day yesterday which was nice. It was mostly taken up with dealing with the plummer. But we now have two new toilets...exciting huh? Hope all are well!

New toilets!!! Whoo hoo!!! There's something to be grateful for!

Last day of work and then 5 off!!! (except for tutoring and one Zumba class on Sat.) Yay! Free time!
I'm turning away from news for a while. It's getting annoying.

I'm just too busy fangirling over an anime that has decided to consume my every fucking second. I have written my entry but it's sitting for a little bit before I go back over it and post it. :) I'm now writing fanfic of one of my favorite couples in the universe because man are the writers of this show doing phenomenally...

I am trying to ignore that this Friday is Black Friday and that my life will be another version of Retail Hell until Dec 24th. I work at a bank for fuck's sake, you'd think I wouldn't even be dealing with Christmas rush! But noooooo...

I've started reading already, because I don't think I'll have much time to read over the Thanksgiving break. Driving to SoCal again, on actual Thanksgiving Day, so we can go to a theme park on Friday, and come back the next day. No idea what that drive will be like on Thanksgiving. Hopefully the traffic will be good because everyone's with their families. I imagine the theme park will be pretty crowded on Friday though.

I haven't been commenting as much as I might've liked, though. I feel like my words are somehow drained and I can't think of much to say in response. I hearted a few entries instead. I like that there's an option for that now.

I've mostly been following local news--all the wildfires out in Western NC. One of them (Party Rock) was disturbingly close to where I live. It's about halfway contained now, but still burning because we haven't had any rain in months. I don't know when I moved to Southern California but it appears that I have.

There was a late question in yesterday's GR about spreadsheets, and since I already typed the html cuteness to answer it, I thought I'd paste it here in case other people had missed the info.

lrig_rorrim linked one here, and kehlen_crow linked one here.

People have joined since they were posted, though, so you'll have to check the last few people on the sign-up post to see if they're on the sheets.

I work at a newspaper so I'm semi-following more news stories than I can count. And by semi-following, I just mean that, as a page designer, I'm placing the news stories on the pages and making sure the pages look good enough to go to print.

I've read several entries and I'm pretty sure I commented on all of them. Going to read more once I'm done work tonight.

Also, the wind here was crazy the last few days. Yesterday afternoon, it was 40F out with a windchill of 22F. Ridiculous.
Nov. 22nd, 2016 05:10 pm (UTC)
The wind was bad here as well. Not all the leaves have fallen off the trees. The snow was wet heavy stuff so lots of trees and branches fell. A coworker had a tree fall on her house. Ouch!

I have an idea and I've vaguely started my entry, but somehow I get the feeling I'll be sliding in under the deadline sometime tomorrow afternoon. Oops?

Hey ya'll. Is there a way to make posts that can only be seen by this group? I have a touchy subject regarding my service dog school that I would like to make a future post about. Only want to post if it stays here. Thanks!

Nov. 23rd, 2016 04:49 pm (UTC)
You'd have to friend everyone in the community and make the entry visible to friends only. The down side of that is the people who lurk without signing up or the friends-of-contestants who are voting won't be able to see it and vote for you.

I remember once in the past someone made an alternate journal for the purpose of posting a sensitive entry, and they had Gary link to that journal in the poll. You'd have to talk to Gary to see if htat's possible. And if you went that way, you'd want to make it really clear that's what you're doing, because people with lists and spreadsheets will get confused about who the alternate name is and whether you had an entry.

Another thing you can do is past-date your entry. I'm pretty sure that keeps it out of the friends=list feeds of your friends. And there's that box at the bottom of the posting form that is for excluding from friends feeds. I'm not sure if that box comes up when you pick "public."

Whatever you do, you can also change the post to "private" immediately after the poll closes, so no one will be able to see it after, so it would only be visible for the period of voting.

Hopefully at least one of those will help.
