Green Room - Week 1 - Weekend Edition

I've been boycotting Hamilton before it was cool.

And by "boycotting" I mean that I haven't been in New York or Chicago, and they haven't launched a national tour yet - and even if I were in those places, I wouldn't be able to get tickets.

But that doesn't stop this from being any less of a boycott.

I feel very strongly, much like our President-elect, that we need more safe spaces for people, so they aren't harassed.

So please - if you have them - please send me all of your Hamilton tickets. I will keep them safe and *help you* boycott this awful show. See how nice I am? I will HELP YOU out by making sure you accidentally don't end up going to see Hamilton, or feel the peer pressure from people to break off your principled boycott and be dragged into the theatre.

If I have your tickets, then you can stand proud. If I don't, then who knows what horrible things could happen.

Think of yourselves and your values. Think of the children growing up in a world where Hamilton exists - and do the right thing by sending me your tickets!

And because that's "politics adjacent" (and seriously, this is your space, I'm going to keep reminding people of that because I want to make sure the Newbies get it into their head, and that the veterans who haven't been around in awhile remember) let's always make sure to have things that aren't. Such as opening up the floor with - What are you up to this weekend?

Anything fun planned? Anything not so fun?

My bonus daughter's paternal grandfather died a couple days ago, so the end of this week has been filled with a lot of talking about that, and dealing with death.

Speaking of - losing SHARON JONES yesterday? It popped up on my FB feed and just slammed me in the heart.

2016, you can leave any time you like. Not sure what 2017 has in store, but let's all hope it's better.

Bonus daughter? Lol I like that term XD.
Nov. 20th, 2016 01:33 am (UTC)
Me too.

It's not official yet. But I've never been fond of the term "step". To me, that implies a distance that I've never felt and never want to convey.

Just finished Zumba. Low key weekend. Hub is still sick. 😝

Sorry about hubby still being sick. Hope he feels better soon. Did your zumba class go better this week? Is it a weather/seasonal thing?

I'm sorry for the loss, both of the grandfather, and seriously Sharon Jones? That broke my heart a little bit more, and I didn't think it could break any more right now.

Tonight a friend is taking me to something... he described it to me, but I'm still not sure what it is. A rat rock cover band musical battle? Or.... something? Tomorrow a local bar is tapping a keg of Pliny the Elder at 1 p.m., so I shall be there in line to get a pint. Otherwise.... not sure about weekend plans.

Thank you.

I was lucky enough to have seen Sharon Jones perform twice. She was absolutely amazing.

I'm doing more protest stuff this weekend.

Apart from that, I might help a friend clean out their apartment on Sunday. Their husband is about to be deployed and they may end up moving, so they want to winnow down their possessions before that happens.
Nov. 20th, 2016 06:11 pm (UTC)

Thank you for doing that.

Leaving something to enjoy!
If you like the Allman Brothers - check this kid out! He's a whole 19. Love this band!

John Oliver did a great segment on how 2016 has blown goats. My favorite part is the MENOPAUSE! lady.

Warning: contains multiple F-bombs. And one real one at the end.

This weekend I cleaned a bit, and my son's friend came over. They played a ton and I baked them brownies and felt very mom-like, in an awesome way. Tomorrow, kiddo and I are going to visit my nephew/my kid's cousin, and my brother. It's just a nice cozy family fun happy lazy weekend.

At some point I suppose I'll do more writing as well. ;)
Nov. 20th, 2016 04:39 pm (UTC)
Sounds wonderful. And brownies! You get my Best Mom award. (Smile)

I went to a comic book shop for their anniversary this morning, then I had an improv rehearsal, because I'm performing in two shows tonight. Tomorrow will be more low-key because I have to look after the kids. I'll probably get some reading done (graphic novels and Idol entries, because my entry is written already), and maybe watch a movie or two. I want to take the kids to see Fantastic Beasts.
Nov. 20th, 2016 03:43 pm (UTC)
Let me know how Fantastic Beasts is, I really want to go see it.

I could barely squeeze into my favorite pair of jeans earlier this week, so I'm bound and determined to get into a fitness routine. I work at a gym so I get a free membership.

No excuses.

I walked 3 miles on the treadmill yesterday. It took me an hour, but I did it. I'm going back tomorrow.

2016 has been a seriously awful year.

My uncle died this week. So this weekend turned from "working for 36 hours in three days" into "Fly from Texas to Chicago for two nights and one memorial standing by my father and my cousins then fly back and work for 12 hours". It seems like a week for such things.

I might even think about writing an entry while sitting in O'Hare tomorrow.

I'm so sorry.

Because my work likes to mess with my head as well as physical well being, I'm on the closing shift tonight. I haven't worked a closing shift in 1001 years :boggle: I get the feeling, though, they scheduled me this shift so I can "be ready" to do overnights this week.

To add insult to injury, my husband is home this weekend from his out-of-state job. Guess who fell asleep promptly as we sat down to watch an Orphan Black episode? Guess who didn't wake up until 11PM? Guess who finally got up at 5AM this morning? Guess who's the most scintillating company?

My poor husband. He's used to this, of course, but I can't help apologizing.
Nov. 20th, 2016 04:32 pm (UTC)
It's good he's able to catch up on sleep.

How do you like working nights? Is it better, less drama?

Funerals are never fun, but they do remind us to check and make sure we have a current will. Look over your life insurance policies and make sure they are adequate. Organize your finances - just in case!
**peers over glasses at Gary**
Go update your will.
Name Bonus Daughter specifically in it.
**kicks Gary**
Do it now!!!
Nov. 20th, 2016 03:41 pm (UTC)
I don't have a will. I DO have a life insurance policy, but I've been told that her Mom and Dad both have her covered in case anything should happen to them.

On the other hand, my niece doesn't have anyone looking out for her future. Which is why she (and Cynthia) are my beneficiaries.

So sorry for your, and your bonus daughter's loss, Gary.

Saw the news about Sharon Jones on TV. What a great voice she had, phenomenal singer.

Watching the sign-in count rising. Awesome!

Yesterday I zoned out, shut down, and did the whole Murielle doesn't live here anymore thing. Needed the time out, but today is another day so...I'm back! (Big deal, right?)

Haven't written my entry yet, but would like to get it done today.

The weather is yucky. You'd think it was winter or something. Wind from the south means I can't have the windows open...much.
Nov. 20th, 2016 08:48 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry about your family's loss. That's got to be a hard time for your bonus daughter.

Actually, I'd not heard of Sharon Jones. I feel kind of bummed because I missed the opportunity to learn about her in life. I always feel it's a little sad to learn things to appreciate about someone only posthumously.

Can I just say though that reading your comments about boycotting and Pence deserving a safe space were really confusing out of context because, when I first read them, I had no idea yet what you were referencing.

No big plans for this weekend. I had a casual first date, "let's get coffee," kind of thing but she asked to reschedule because she forgot about her mom's bday. (oops.) I have no homework this weekend which is a big deal because I'm taking 19 credits (I say this for those who have college experience because they'll know how exciting it is to have no homework on a weekend in a quarter you're doing so many credits!) ellison and I are being editing-buddies for each other on our first novels. We've finished them and are giving notes a chapter at a time. We finished chapter 1 round Saturday and I think we'll be getting started on Ch2 round this weekend and upcoming week.
Nov. 22nd, 2016 04:23 pm (UTC)
Yay for no homework!!

I hope your date gets rescheduled soon!

And I am very happy we're working together on our novels, woohoo!
