Green Room - Sign Up Week - Day 4

Sign-ups are still open! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/945807.html So tell a friend! Tell two friends! Tell a friend to tell an enemy to tell that dog at the end of the street that is always running loose to bite people until they sign up!

Or skip the middle-dog and just bite them yourself!

***

It's Friday.

Normally, that would be "It's Friday!" but it's still early enough that I can't get much excitement up, and I used all my available exclamation marks in the section about signing up.

Other than waiting for the topic on Sunday - what else do you have planned for your weekend?

fristtttttt

Weekend plans include getting discharged from stupid hospital today! I'm trying to figure out what I'll beyond that, or if I'm just going to sit on my butt and recover for a bit.

Saturday is usually juggling day, and I mean that literally. I instruct people in how to juggle objects (usually balls and clubs but occasionally other things) in Bryant Park, the nearly city block sized park situated directly behind the main branch of the New York Public Library on 42nd Street. The Saturday session runs 11am to 2pm, so drop on by if you're in the neighborhood. You can also go ice skating there, since the rink was opened this week and the Holiday shops are also selling their wares. It's a very festive season!

Really I have to do research for a project I'm writing, so I might wind up skipping the juggling and just doing the writing. I'll see when I get there.

Happy Friday! I used an exclamation point as Gary ran out of his. smile.
This should be a fairly low key weekend. My husband and I will go to a concert at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art We'll be seeing Big Thief in their b10 club, which is a small venue. It should be fun. Sunday I'll do my normal internet radio show on The Phoenix. I'm on from 9-11 AM eastern. I'll also be enjoying an extra hour of sleep due to clocks turning back an hour.

I run a cadet squadron somewhere in the depths of South West England. This weekend I'm voluntarily getting out of bed at stupid o'clock to take a bunch of teenagers shooting. As you do.

Also can someone motivate me to do some work, please? It's 2pm and I'm still in my PJs and have written a grand total of 150 words. I don't get paid much for 150 words :(

My weekend plan is to mostly just make a gigantic deal about the extra hour Saturday night to trick my body into thinking everything is actually all better now!

I'm way more nervous to compete this time around than I thought I would be. I have written so little since Season 9. Ahhhh!

Re: Happy Fountain Pen Day!
Nothing happy about Fountain Pen day. As a person who pushes the pen (i.e. a left handed writer) fountain pens smear and get ink on my hand and/or sleeve. But if you like 'em, that's great!

Panic for so many reasons. :) My husband turns 40 today. So fancy dinner tonight at a steakhouse... with a 3 year old. Then going to the Royal Winter Fair tomorrow... with a 3 year old. Then dinner and a Second City show... without the 3 year old! Then 20 people in my house on Sunday for a birthday party... with 9 kids under 11.

We are picking up our new car tonight!!!!!

Tomorrow, I am not yet sure about. Supposed to be spending the day with J as his birthday is Sunday. Sunday is all kinds of tentative but may involve seeing Dr. Strange.

My daughter is volunteering at a festival on Saturday with the wildlife group we volunteer with. It was decided for me that I'm not able to be on my feet that much. We found her rides in both directions so she is set.

This afternoon I have to go to a meeting to have my mom evaluated for Hospice. I am stressed about this. The nurse I spoke with said that for Alzheimer's patients they are trying to bring hospice in earlier to help keep them more comfortable and that any changes triggers an evaluation. If she qualifies she will get a lot of services - a nurse, personal aide and volunteer visitors. That would be really good. She fell back in September and has been eating less and sleeping more. I guess I will know more after the meeting. The nurse I spoke to said it doesn't mean that the end is close - so we will see. My grandmother also had Alzheimer's and was on and off hospice for many years. The call was out of the blue and I'm really still trying to process the information.

I really can't wait until I can drive again.

I described myself as feeling very shuffled on Wednesday. Everything is feeling unsettled and it is stressing me out.

Looking forward to the first prompt. Also, I'm really glad this brought me back to LJ.

I don't have much planned for the weekend. Tonight I'm seeing John Cleese & Eric Idle with my husband, though! Tomorrow night I'm going to see some improv. The improv theatre I perform with is debuting their newest troupe, and I know many of the members (one of whom is in my level V class right now), so I'm looking forward to checking that out.

Any other Idolers besides copyright1983 in/near San Francisco? (Randomly, I totally didn't realise he was in SF until he found me at another improv show, which he found out about because I marked myself as going on a Facebook event).

Sunday I'm hoping to watch a movie with one of my improv troupemates while my husband goes on a date with his girlfriend. I'll see if I can convince him to sign up. Maybe I'll be able to get more people involved now that I'm signed up as well. I also invited someone I went on a first date with on Tuesday. LOL.

I need to make a list now, so I don't forget-- Saturday should be sunny, so I need to 1) Remove outdoor Halloween decorations, 2) Get up on the roof and check for breaches by mice, rats, OR squirrels, and 3) Go for a bike ride.

One guess as to which of those I'm actually looking forward to. Hint: I don't like heights. :(

Anyone have a few hours to spare for exhausting cut and paste this afternoon?

I have a grunt job, that I've been doing, but apparently I "need to do actual work" or something. ;)

If anyone wants to help out, send me an email at clauderainsrm@gmail.com and I'll fill you in on the details.

Our own Mick Moran
asked me to pass this along about a zine they have been working on:

"I've written sometimes about my work as an abortion doula, and we just finished making a zine called DIY Doula: Self-Care for Before, During, & After Your Abortion.

Our goal for this 48-page Zine is to be “long-distance doulas” to our readers who might not have access to a doula in their communities. While we may not be able to hold their hands during their procedures, through comics, drawings, personal essays, games and more we’re tackling some of the tough questions, affirming that people can trust their decisions, modeling how to ask for support, and giving tips on self-advocacy. The Zine also acts as a huge, diverse toolbox that gives some more practical advice and answers FAQs that we often find ourselves addressing in clinics.

I was the editor for the zine, and for every copy we sell, we'll be able to donate copies to people having abortions. Through our pre-order and our launch fundraiser, we've already been able to commit to giving away 500 print copies.

There's a review about the zine on Ravishly that's pretty cool: http://www.ravishly.com/2016/10/31/diy-doula-self-care-during-after-your-abortion

And people can find out more, buy a print copy to be shipped worldwide, or donate and get a digital download on our zine website, diydoula.org. If anyone has contacts at clinics, organizations, or schools, they can contact zine@doulaproject.org to help us get a wholesale order set up there. "

Re: Our own Mick Moran
Thank you for sharing this. One of my dreams is to become an abortion doula, and I have made it a priority to make progress on this dream beginning this year.
