Green Room - Week 20 - Day 3

All the talk about the "transgender restroom issue" has been reminded me of the talk about how "gays shouldn't be able to use the same restrooms/changing rooms" because they "might do something".

Which reminded me of the struggles of homosexuals throughout the years.

Which reminded me of my neighbor in the mid-90's, Larry.

Which reminded me that AIDS stole my VCR!

I had a VCR. Larry loved to tape movies and TV shows. He had an entire room that was filled floor to ceiling with tapes. (He would have *loved* On Demand viewing/Netflix/etc) He needed an extra VCR in order to record, and I wasn't using mine. So I let him borrow it.

Larry had AIDS and ended up dying with my VCR still in his possession - and the charity that he had left all his belongings to swept in pretty quickly and took everything, including said VCR.

I may have told that story before, but it's not something that I think of often... and it reminds me that AIDS needs to be stopped, before it steals anything else.

Btw - your deadline is tomorrow! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/924359.html Hope you've been working!

If I recall correctly, you're only dead to ellakite if you misspell it, so I think you're good here.

We're leaving for our getaway in maybe 3-4 hours, depending on whatever work SO's finishing up.

The Boyz don't know they're being boarded. I don't want to talk about it lest I suddenly morph into Nervous Dog Mom.

Enjoy your getaway! It'll go fast!

I'm in the middle of getting stuff coalesced. The Boyz noticed me packing up their food. I collected some clothing and towels with our scents on them and put them into a garbage bag. They snuffled at that. Now they're in their respective corners looking very apprehensive. ARGH.

I hope you both have a wonderful time. :D

The Boyz will live, they just don't know it yet.

People need to pee, let 'em pee. We tried having different restrooms for different kinds of people and it sucked. America, where history is just a story in a book with no reflection of the future.

But was it a registered charity?

Go get that VCR back. It's what Larry would've wanted. Don't let AIDS win.

There's a reason I adore you people! Even on a not so great day you make me smile.

I asked this over in the work room, but I'll ask it here, too.

Are there generally agreed upon (or recommended) LJI conventions or norms for photo-heavy posts? Like sizes, caption options, etc?
Apr. 29th, 2016 02:46 am (UTC)
Paging porn_this_way!

I think general conventions are to try to keep the size of the images neither too huge (because it takes longer to load and might mess up formatting around them) nor too tiny (because argh, seeing them) and to provide both good alt-text and actual descriptions of the images beneath them for the visually impaired. Some folks will do up an entire alternative version of an image heavy post, just with text, for the people who can't actually see the images. I don't know that these are norms or conventions, per se, but using descriptive captions at a bare minimum is what I've seen the most of.

Thank you - that's a big help. I'll work on adding some additional text and will try to format them in as friendly a way as possible.

Glad to be of help!

After much playing around with sizes, I picked a size that's pretty big, but I think it makes the posts look better. I didn't like the layouts for this one with the smaller versions of the photos - it sort of undercut the piece somehow.

Hmm. Much respect to those of you what do photo posts all the time. Its not easy.
