Work Room - Week 17

Every week I end the topic post http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/916255.html with "Have fun", because I think that's something that too often is neglected. Writing should be fun. Sure, it's also a pain-in-the-ass to get everything right. But if you aren't also having fun with it, then you are missing out.

I know there was a lot of people struggling last week. Is this week any better?

(I know there's one of these topics that was actually submitted *word for word* by two different folks, and there were some "close" ones from others. If enough people liked it enough to submit, I wonder what that means as far as people actually writing something for it!)

Wow! Great topics!

I have this love/hate thing with writing. Most of the time I feel like I want to write a thing, and then I hate writing it, but I want to have written it, you know?

It's the middle part, the actual doing it that sucks the soul out through your eyeballs. Except when you hit a sweet spot, when the words feel like they're coming through you instead of from you. I think those are the moments that keep me going through the soul-sucking part.

Well, that and some friends who keep poking me with sharp sticks.

These topics look pretty good, comparatively. :)

Time will tell.

I agree with everything in this comment!

I actually just IM'd my writing buddies with, "oh thank God, the topics are good this week", so...yes! ;)

(I'm open to writing&etc with more people if anyone is curious as to what I mean. Google Hangouts multiperson chats, usually. They're fun! PM me for details. :) )

Hugs peeps! I'm just checking out the topics and the things you learn on Idol! I went and checked out Cardboard - only to find out it's a Vrtual reality app! Hmm... this 52 year old grandma did not know that! I must ruminate! Am off! ( and yes K- writers are a wierd lot! ;)

What I'm finding challenging this season is working with multiple topics. In the past, a single topic goes up, I ruminate on it, I sleep, I dream about it and then I write what I dream. I don't have topic related dreams when I'm thinking about five different prompts - hence, perhaps, the focus on music related entries from me so far this season.

On the positive side, I have enjoyed forcing myself to write with an overt specific focus, especially trying to find ways of approaching it that personalize it and make it fresh week after week. So there's that.

Same. Exactly the same. And I've found that even if I squint hard and pretend there's only one prompt and go through the incubation process, my subconscious will invariably begin working with the other prompts BEHIND MY BACK!

It's been the single most frustrating aspect of this mini-season!

Yeah, more often than not this season I've ended up working with a different prompt than I'd intended to work with. I had a totally different idea for one of the prompts, but I've now started leaning towards "Just Breath" because... uh... I have a music related thing that prompt made me think of.

Nothing leaping at me this time. Not immediately...

but that doesn't mean on the second time I look I won't go...
WAIT!.. There we go.

I mean there is ONE, but I don't know if I want to go there. I've gone there before... it always hurts and I break down. Do I want to write about something I've written about before? Should I? (thoughts?)

Well I hate the idea of you breaking down, though I have been there recently, but if you can come at if from a different angle, or think you can arrive at a different place, then yes. That said, writing is an exploration, and if we have to write something over and over many times until we feel we have explored enough, so be it.

2¢ ;-)
