Work Room - Week 14

The new topics are up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/908290.html

as are the results from last week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/908198.html

Taking a look at the numbers, the "Friends" portion of our show will be coming to an end soon! As always, any changes to existing Teams, or forming new ones, needs to be emailed to me 24 hours before the deadline!

***

It's a short week - so make sure to get off the ground running!

What topics are speaking to you? (and what are they saying?)

To save everyone else from looking - from Wikipedia:

Saudade (European Portuguese: [sɐwˈðaðɨ], Brazilian Portuguese: [sawˈdadi] or [sawˈdadʒi], Galician: [sawˈðaðe]; plural saudades)[1] is a word in Portuguese and Galician (from which it entered Spanish) that claims no direct translation in English. It describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never return.[2] A stronger form of saudade might be felt towards people and things whose whereabouts are unknown, such as a lost lover, or a family member who has gone missing, moved away, separated, or died.

Saudade was once described as "the love that remains" after someone is gone. Saudade is the recollection of feelings, experiences, places or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, well-being, which now triggers the senses and makes one live again. It can be described as an emptiness, like someone (e.g., one's children, parents, sibling, grandparents, friends, pets) or something (e.g., places, things one used to do in childhood, or other activities performed in the past) that should be there in a particular moment is missing, and the individual feels this absence. It brings sad and happy feelings all together, sadness for missing and happiness for having experienced the feeling.

Thank you for this. I did look it up, but didn't come up with as much or as detailed an explanation as you. So this is great.

The topics aren't speaking to me yet. The deadline is laughing an evil laugh and staring with glowing red eyes in my general direction, though. Yiiiiiiiiiikes!

I would have missed the deadline, were it not for your keen observation. Clearly, I'm too tired to read.

Yikes indeed.

I didn't know this one, and it's intriguing: here's mud in your eye - Google says:

WHY such a short deadline? *bites nails*

I'd been hoping for a longer one here and there!

Pressure's on! Anyone else keeping up with this season of American Idol and feeling solidarity with the contestants there? I'm like ok, they only have a few days to learn a song, I can write some essays or fiction or something!! As for which subject, who knows. The topics need to percolate around my brain for a short while first..

I don't follow American Idol, but a former piano student of mine was a contestant. During their time in AI, they actually are doing nothing else, save for Idol related activities. So while it seems only a few days, they're devoting hours each day to learning that music.

Also, many of the contestants are already working in the music business already, so they're likely to have a sizable chunk of this in their repertoire already.

I think if we had no distractions like job, family, etc. we'd probably be not at all nervous about the deadline.

Oh who was it? I'm a huge American Idol dork and have been watching since season 1, so was curious if it was someone I know.

Yes, that's true, they really are fully immersed, and I'd heard that too, about already being professional to some degree, and their managers get them on the show for more exposure.

I know it's not like super comparable, but it's in the title of the contest, and it is easy to draw a few parallels anyway. :)

Yeah...I'm not sure what's up w the short deadline either, but oh well. I can write, but I cannot promise all the quality that an extra day or two could allow. Guess I will figure something out. I have some thoughts...just gotta organize.

I had fun this short week and banged out something from the one topic that leaped right out at me.

I hope people enjoy it and I hope others have fun with this week.
