How was your Christmas?

Or for those of you who don't celebrate, how have the last couple of days been?

Christmas was good. Quiet and relaxing, for a change.

This is the first year that we were actually organized ahead of time instead of a last minute running around in a frenzy.

So it's the first time we actually could relax and enjoy ourselves.

Sick. Don't celebrate, so it didn't spoil any plans.

Garden variety sick or extra special sick?
Dec. 26th, 2015 11:48 pm (UTC)
Garden variety, with frills.

Oh good, I wasn't the only person who got a cold for Christmas.
Dec. 26th, 2015 11:02 pm (UTC)
I got one, too.

The sun has set in California.
Today, the 26th of December, has been the second day of Christmas. A time to rest and rejoice and eat leftovers. Boxing Day in UK and the commonwealth of nations.
Tomorrow, meanwhile, will be the third day of Christmas. I am dreaming of three French hens.
So far, my friends, I must say my Christmas is going well. I thank you for asking.
I am still looking forward to the next ten days until Epiphany. Before the twelve days of Christmas come to an end, we will of course have New Year's eve and day. By then everyone will have forgotten it is still Christmas, and yet it will be so, until the 6th of January. But if you get up early enough in the morning, on the days after then, you may notice that the days have just begun to get to begin a teeny, tiny bit earlier. Except on the slightly less populated southern half of the world, where it is now summer. Go figure. Santa in a speedo on the beach at Rio de Janeiro.
Meanwhile, back at home, yesterday, the first day of Christmas, my four brothers and my sister and their children and a couple cousins dropped by in the afternoon to celebrate what may be the last Xmas day open house -- a tradition begun more than forty years ago by my late stepfather may he rest in peace. I laid out a buffet of sandwich fixings and champagne and hot water for tea.
There were only twenty of us this year. Previous years as many as sixty people have come and gone through the afternoon.
I am relieved that it has become simpler and more casual these last few years.
As for livejournal, I am still struggling not to upset the bees.

I thought I'd get a breather sometime this week because I'm using the rest of my PTO. It's not shaping up that way. We evidently have more family obligations on SO's side than I'd originally thought and they're ongoing until New Year's Eve.

Other than that I've been sleeping a lot. My god, you never quite realize just how drained you are until whatever's been making you drained stops...and you collapse. Literally.

Ah, I so get this. Isn't it terrible how much we look forward to relaxing and then realize that the holidays are possibly even more stressful than our regular work weeks? Take care of yourself!

I don't know who's more exhausted, SO or me :p We just returned home from seeing my BIL who's visiting from out of state. He and my other BIL have young kids, so between them running around, the game on TV, and all us adults talking, I couldn't wait to get out of there. Mind you, I'll be seeing all of them again on Wednesday for MIL's birthday, LOL.

So before having a kid, I didn't celebrate Christmas at all. That's how it came to be that I eloped on Christmas Day. So we celebrated our fifteenth anniversary.

With a kid though, she's very much into secular Christmas, so Santa made a visit.

In laws arrived Friday evening, but my father in law left today. His best friend is stage 4 cancer, so he has gone to be at his friend's side during the final days. So everyone is sad here.

I was reading somewhere that a lot of nonreligious-affiliated people celebrate secular Christmas. I think it's more of a "normal" thing now, since the commercialization of it has made it more secular, maybe? I've noticed less of a religious significance as the years go by.

Your poor FIL :(

I'm so sorry. Although loss and grief are painful at all times, there seems to be an added dimension to the suffering when it coincides with a time of celebration. My heart goes out to you and your family. May I say how touched I am by your father-in-law's loyalty and love for his friend. This is so very precious in our world today.

Currently in Strathmore, Alberta - aka: The Middle of Nowhere. Spending the holidays with my parents and sister. It's been nice, but I'm surprised to find that I'm missing my little apartment in Vancouver so much despite spending the whole year missing my family beforehand. The grass is always greener!

It's weird how things like that happen, isn't it? Whenever I've gone away and start yearning for home it's a clue that I'm beginning to overstay my welcome, even though everything's hunky dory. Maybe it's something like that for you?
Dec. 28th, 2015 01:12 am (UTC)
Yeah, but in Vancouver it literally is greener. ;-)

Can't complain as the temp here is on the rise againg. Bring on another Chinook!

Great to be with loved ones we've been missing, but then we long for what's familiar. We humans are a complicated lot.

I'm tentatively going to take a bye.

I've been stuck with this thing through my birthday and then just NOTHING emerging in my fertile mind.

I have till 8 PM Monday still (it is 2:30 AM now and I half awake)... but I have lots to do tomorrow. So either inspiration will hit or I'll be taking a bye. I don't want to offer a BAD piece and then get eliminated because of THAT though... cause it's happened in LJ Idol past.
Dec. 29th, 2015 12:20 am (UTC)
Dammit. So I worked on an entry and have it on my computer to post. Then my family dragged me into the city and everything was frantic and I forgot to actually submit it. Everything is terrible and I won't be back til 10 GMT. Deadline is...probably before this? Much sad.
