Green Room - Week 2 - Day 4

What is your favorite "Christmas song"?  Or "Winter Holiday" song, because let's face it - there are a lot of holidays happening now or soon.  I'm not aware of a lot of good music for most of them. But hopefully that is changing, just off my radar.

Personally my favorite is called "Idol Deadline is Tonight".  It's more of a traditional dirge. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/870987.html

Feel free to hum along!

Also, I am anxiously waiting to see if I'm going to be spending my day off vomiting, because I tended to a sick kid all of Friday night and most of Saturday night...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't get sick, though.

Also, the only Christmas Song that brings me legit joy:

My sympathies. Been there, done that, probably won't have to do it again (kids have aged out).

Because I know people like to keep their spreadsheets updated
and I'm feeling generous today:

- Team...Name? has disbanded and shay_writes has dropped out due to RL.

Re: Because I know people like to keep their spreadsheets updated
somehow I feel like this is targeted at me, but thanks. ;)

(Though I don't have teams in a spreadsheet, just the individuals. LIFE IS TOO SHORT.)

My favorite Christmas song is "Merry Christmas from the Family" by Robert Earl Keen. It's dysfunction at it's finest!

Being a December kid I despise most Christmas music. I guess I could go with "Mistress for Christmas" by AC/DC...
Dec. 14th, 2015 02:10 pm (UTC)
So your favorite Christmas song is "Happy Birthday". :D

Christmas song? "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt, if you want something funny, jazzy, and more grown up.

I love her voice! And I actually sound like her today. That is, if I can get a few words out before another coughing fit. So many on/off switches in the world and not one for coughing!

"Mary" by Lou Barlow.

Not a .... traditional song. ;)

Dec. 14th, 2015 06:19 pm (UTC)
Haha! I liked that one. Boy, the Council at Nicea really pulled out all the stops in creating the weird Mary lore. Which was not part of the belief system beforehand. :O

Hello :).

Our team, Team Celestial Coconut Pancakes, is still looking for new members.

Our team is made up of aresrising05, fourth_horseman and me.

If anyone is interested PM me. At this point, we can go for a start next week as that seems more feasible.

Also on Christmas songs, all the Christmas songs, all of them, shiny.

At this point you *have* to go for next week because the deadline for changes was last night!

Ooooh so hard! I have never celebrated Christmas, but I do love Christmas music. I blame all the years in band and all our Christmas concerts.

My favorite Christmas song is probably God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. There isn't really any decent rendition I like, however, because I prefer the song to be uptempo and hardly anyone sings it that way. EDIT: Actually this version is pretty damn uptempo and good : ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBoPx_5MU8o

I also loved the Christmas album Twisted Sister came out with about a decade ago (oh it was 2006). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmEfFlbqbbY . That is my favorite version of Oh Come All Ye Faithful.

I still like the Last Christmas Wham! Song! Lol. Also the entire Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. Grinch soundtrack too. I'm working up an entry.

I am torn into several pieces. As a kid I always sang in holiday concerts and pageants, and had my favorites, especially cantique de noel however it's spelled o holy night the stars are brightly shining this is the night et cetera but I later learned to love hanukah o hanukah come light the menorah let's have a party we'll all dance the hora and then even more recently I have turned more and more sarcastic and bitter about the whole commercial puke of buying and giving and so forth and so on and so I must say that today my favorite song is grandma got run over by a reindeer.

I think that's fully understandable! :D

Silent Night
Dec. 14th, 2015 06:09 pm (UTC)
After 10 years in the radio business, the last 4 of them at a station that put various renderings of Christmas carols into the daily rotation (at a classical music station!), I have to say that I hate all Christmas carols.

Except for the lingering weakness for the Bell Song (instrumental carillon thingy), and I did use to sing Silent Night in German to my kids when they were babies. Along with other songs that were either without lyrics or in other languages, so that they'd fall asleep instead of pay attention to the words!

After working six years in a place that changes to the Muzak Christmas station Thanksgiving week, I hate all carols too.

Except "I Won't Be Home for Christmas" which perfectly captures my feelings about Christmas music.

Outside the carolers start to sing
I can't describe the joy they bring
'Cause joy is something they don't bring me

I also like "Patrick Swayze Christmas" as my icon indicates.

Favorite Christmas songs? I'm more about specific performances. I happen to hate MOST versions of "All I Want for Christmas is You"... BUT... it's so hard to deny young Olivia Olson in LOVE ACTUALLY... it's pretty much the only time Olivia has been on screen separate from her adult Youtube channel (shockingly because obviously she grew up to be drop dead gorgeous).

And now for the nerdy part. If you don't know Olivia Olson is Vanessa Doofenshmirtz on the Disney cartoon Phineas & Ferb and the drummer who can't keep his eyes off her for the whole song is Ferb. Olivia is also Marceline in Adventure Time, but the Phineas and Ferb thing is the deal here of nerd facts.

Christmas songs? Glad you asked.

Before that video destroyed his career, Billy Squier recorded "Christmas is a Time To Say I Love You."

Jonathan Coulton and friends recorded "Podsafe Christmas Song" so that people would have a Christmas song to play without copyright fears on their Podcasts.

Of course, Coulton also recorded the great sci-fi Christmas song "Chiron Beta Prime."

Sparks just put out a new Christmas song titled "Christmas Without a Prayer".

Ah, quirkiness.

Yay Chiron Beta Prime!
