Green Room - Week 35 - Day 4

There were some comments in yesterday's Green Room that really got me thinking about how folks don't really know each other that well this season. That made me a bit sad, so I was trying to think of something that I could reveal about *myself* that might help break the ice.

There *is* something. Something that I think you should know about me.

I need to get something off my chest, that isn't going to be easy for a lot of people to hear.

I know it's "not PC" and, especially on the internet, I'm going to get a lot of shit for this. But I think it's time for those of us who have strong opinions about things speak up, even if they are shouted back down.

I am severely "transphobic".

That's not the word I would use. I'd say "normal". But it's the internet, so that's what "They" use.

I've felt this way ever since I can remember. Even when I was a kid, I'd see them and not know what the hell they were thinking! I wasn't sure why such a thing would exist.

As I've gotten older, and they have only gotten more accepted, even celebrated, my feelings about them have become that much more intense.

People say that they should be "treated like Real Men and Real Women" and I couldn't disagree more. THEY ARE NOT REAL MEN AND REAL WOMEN!!

Not even close.

They don't even try to be.

They don't transform into people - so why should they be "counted" as them? It makes no sense.

They are NOT our friends.

I don't believe the whole nonsense about "the bad ones are Decepticons" that Optimus Prime apologists spout. They are all trouble.

Why else would they hang out with Michael Bay? That's just an explosion waiting to happen!!!

Seriously, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being "transphobic". That just means you are aware that these "Transformers" are out to get us!

Wait... what? That's *not* what it means?

What does it mean then?

Nevermind then, I'm not "transphobic". Not sure why anyone would be... Maybe I'm "transformerphobic". Is that a word?

While I'm trying to figure out that - here's something for YOU to figure out: who are you going to vote for in this week's poll? http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/831470.html

First? First!

Seriously though, Transformers always scared me as a kid. Another thing that I found terrifying: high voltage power lines.

Naturally, when I got older I wandered out into the New Mexican desert to photograph some (that weren't so scary) in an attempt to face my fear. Those aren't quite as scary robot looking as the ones that freaked me out when I was a kid, but still.

Having spent my youth in rural Ohio/PA - I know the scary looking ones you are talking about!

Someone should put a stop to those!

Also: Lou Reed's solo album.

Wind Turbines

I feel the same about the wind turbines on the border of Kansas and Colorado--their scale exceeds anything that my ancient ancestors could have imagined, except maybe clouds, that could move. The way they stand against the stark, open horizon is more than fuel enough for abstract, surreal terror.

But a moonless, cloudless night sky gets me even worse. I always feel like I'm going to be sucked into it. We'll be laying on the roof of my car, far away from the city. "What if gravity turns off?" I ask, and my wife makes fun of me.

All legit fears, as far as I'm concerned!

The wind turbines are starting to pop up all over Oklahoma. At first it was mostly in the northern and western parts of the state, but now there are some in the southern area where I'm from. If you stand in just the right spot, you can see their red eyes blinking in the night through the trees at my grandparents' farm.

But... but... those are the boring kind of high-voltage carriers.

The really good kind are much weirder. I always used to think of them as Martian men, marching across the desert.

Like these:

I just bought Weird Al tickets for me and n3m3sis43. Sure, it's FIVE MONTHS AWAY, but it's for our birthdays! Since her's like two days before the concert. xD

All I need now is for Muse and Incubus to come touring near the area and I will snatch tickets up for them, too....
Jan. 30th, 2015 03:16 pm (UTC)

And I was going to mention that whenever Muse goes on tour again (which I think is not going to be until late this year or 2016 at this rate) that I could always travel to see them because I am SO GOING TO SEE THEM FINALLY I SWEAR.

Weird Al is going to be an hour away from me in July. Tickets went on sale today. I need to get together with a couple of friends to see if they want to go too. I saw him in Myrtle Beach once (the only reason I'd ever go to MB) and he was fantastic.

I've only seen Weird Al once.

But it was awesome.

He was the opening act for the Monkees reunion tour back in the 80s. :)

Awesome! :)

I want to go see him, but he's playing in Bend, and it's a 3 hour drive from where I am down one of the most treacherous mountain roads in Oregon. :/

Weird Al has one CA stop and it's in Arcata which is so far North as to be nearly in Oregon. Nothing in the Bay Area or LA which seems really strange. Maybe he hates us, or maybe he's going to hang out on the west coast after returning from Europe.

This is what I always thought would happen if someone was inside a Transformer when it changed. They are deceitful, tricksy things, not like the honest, dependable Jaegers from Pacific Rim.
