Work Room - Week 35

You have your new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/829608.html
and a new Quick Fire: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/829885.html

The question is, do you have what it takes to "make it work" enough to get through another week, as the numbers continue to shrink - and your chances of winning get that much better?

What do you have left in your tank for a Quick Fire and how does that differ from the regular one? (other than being "Open Topic" rather than an assigned one... let's face it, all Idol topics can, and often are, handled like they are Open Topics!)

It's so wrong, but my first thought when seeing the topic was "man boobs" or, i guess, "moobs."

...now I'm thinking of the guy I once saw running for the train who probably needed a bra (they were hitting him in the chin as he ran). Poor guy.

Quickfire differs from regular for me inasmuch as it's just a "write and get all the shit knocked loose before you really go for it".

...which is how I ended up writing pulp, of all things, this week. That's a first for me.

This week has been kind of odd all over, though—for the first time in God knows how long, when I looked at the topic I drew an immediate and direct connection between it and what I'm going to write about. So that's...nice?

(It's a piece that has been rattling around in my head for a while—something I have been thinking about writing since last February—and...yeah.)

Interesting theory about the man to whom this week's topic is attributed

I did a huge project on Franklin back in grad school and not once did I ever run across this quote. But the abstract to which I linked, I think, is an interesting theory on the quote.

All you need to do with both men & melons is thump 'em to see if they are ripe or not, right? :)

Aw man, B-Frank is my homeboy. I live an hour outside of Philadelphia, I grew up going to the Franklin Institute Science Museum and take my kids there now, I have a little leather book entitled The Wit and Wisdom of Benjamin Franklin, full of quotes drawn from Poor Richard's Almanac along with other sources.

I just DID a Colonial America historical fiction piece for the last quickfire, I'll need to choose carefully this week.
