Green Room Week 3 Day 3

Good morning.

One more day left until I get a 4 day weekend! Well, ok, some of you are getting one too. See, don't say I've never given you anything!*G*

Thanksgiving should be good . . . even better though is BLACK FRIDAY!!!!

God, I love Black Friday.

I don't go out and buy anything. I rarely have any cash to do that. However a friend of mine usually goes out in the wee hours of the morning to buy presents for his wife and kids. He takes me with him so I can keep him company/keep a spot in line.

I don't know what it is, but I really like being out with all the people - without the pressure of "I HAVE TO GET THAT". I also like standing in line. The anticipation of getting something is sometimes more fun than actually getting it. It's why I tried to get as many of the Harry Potter books the night they came out. It wasn't so much getting the book as it was the experience of going out to get the book. I'm probably the only person in the world who thought it was a bit of a cheat when Disney World introduced "fast passes". Part of the fun was waiting for the ride!!!

That said, I don't like waiting in lines at the grocery store. Go figure. That's more of a race!

Anyway, hopefully I will get to stand in a few lines on Black Friday - and hopefully YOU will get everything you want out of your holiday (OR, for those in other parts of the world than me, or who just plain don't celebrate Thanksgiving just have a really nice time of the rest of your week!!!)

It's going to be so weird to have a Thanksgiving without going to my family. this is the first time ever, but I guess since I'm on another continent and all, it'd be tough to do. My class here is doing a dinner on the 29th.

I'm phobic about crowds, myself, so I've always hated Black Friday.

Last year was my first holiday without my family. It was really, really hard. I feel for you!

I'm with you! I love going out on Black Friday, but I usually wait until after the early bird specials. I find people are friendly, cheerful, and the crowd has a really nice vibe to it. It's fun! And it's a family tradition. My dad and I went out with my Nana shopping every year the day after Thanksgiving.

Finally someone who gets it!! I did the after the early bird specials thing for a few years, but when I got the chance to actually make the sales too, that really did add something.

It's kind of like being at a moving concert, and is wonderful for people watching.

I will be heading out of town later in the afternoon.
Spending thanksgiving with the fiance's mom who cooks for an army when it's only a few people. It should be some good food though.

I hope everyone has a wonderful long week and a great holiday if you celebrate it.

Black Friday is fun, when one isn't broke! I love shopping for--well, for almost anything really, except for shoes. I really adore giving gifties!

What a difference a day makes
I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and just being here. Having you folks around has kept me sane the last couple of days.

We're home and after a good night's sleep at home my girlfriend is feeling much better (me too).

Wishes for safety to anyone traveling (or not) today!

I'm heading out to my father's today after work, will be quite interesting. I'm not actually sure who's coming to Thanksgiving this year -- and it's the first time in about twenty years we've had everyone gather at my dad's. (We're usually at my grandmother's and I always thought that was strange since my father's the chef of the entire family.)

If I don't get a chance to before now, hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

I used to do the Black Friday thing -- sometimes I still sneak out to shops before I have to be at work (*sighs* yes I work the Friday after Thanksgiving, but it's a short day at least).

For the topic, mine's half written and I hope to finish it tomorrow, but I'm not posting it until Monday. Which is the PERFECT day for it. Thank you Gary for giving us that as a deadline!

Happy holiday to everyone who has it. Happy middle of the week to those who are not in the US. Mwah!

OMG YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY FOUR DAY FREAKING WEEKEND I AM SO EXCITED!!!

I worked at Barnes & Noble for the release of the last Harry Potter book. The energy of the crowd in the store that night was palpable. EVERYONE was so excited. I just kept spontaneously cheering and clapping as I was packing books--and people were cheering along with me! I felt almost the same way I did when performing. Cool, and hard to explain.

Anyway.

I wish I could say that I just like being out and not buying anything. I am, sad to say, a HUUUGE shopaholic, and I find it hard to be in a retail store without handing my credit card over!

Oh, don't get me wrong - when I have any extra money it flows like water out of my hands. So if I had it, it would completely be gone on Friday!!!

Holy Crud! I made the first page of comments *is strangely impressed* My work day will be short and after that I'll probably get a few chores done around the house in prep for tomorrow, bust my butt cooking tomorrow and plan to do nadanilnothing on Friday (because I'll probably be too dead from thurs.)

Ah Black Friday. I remember it well. I use to be an assistant manager of a Borders Books and would ask for the day shift on that day which they would give me gladly because the evening shift was easier to manage.

Of course that meant that I had to deal with people (in a bookstore mind you) who couldn't read or refused to read the fine print on our flyers and coupons and explain why they are not getting the FAB-Bu-Lous bargains they thought they were being clever to get. Sometimes I knew they were being obtuse trying to bully their way of getting us to sell them something at less than we paid for it. Didn't fly with me at all and all the threats of going to corporate were met with the information that the website had everything that they needed if they did wish to complain.

Other biggest b**ch fest I had to deal with? Why we (the physical store) didn't match the discounts of our website. I would look around and bit and say(much more politely than this but you get the idea) Hmmmm, maybe because we are a store that you can walk into and look at the product and we have employees who are helping you to pay as well as rent on the physical building? Also if you factor in shipping, it came out about the same and you always have the option of shopping on line if you do want the discounts but of course you have to wait for those to arrive. And my manager always backed me up on this.

That's the best explanation to the web cheaper deals to store details.

This doesn't explain of course WEB ONLY deals.

Good morning all!

I'm so excited about the 4 day weekend! Woot! Today may end up to be a short day for me. I brought my youngest kidlet to work with me and I'm not sure that he's going to be able to hang the whole day =S We may decide hell with it and cut out early =) Hope everyone has a great Turkey Day tomorrow! =D

I am going to hate Black Friday. I'm going to bed at 9pm the night before so that I can stand at a cash register and wait on people with their arms full of clothes. BOO!!

I'm almost done shopping, myself. *g*

I'm so excited and happy! *squee!*
