It's not always easy to explain to people what exactly it is that LJ Idol is about, or why I do it. Some people get parts of it, but not others. Others get broader strokes but figure the "why I do it" must be covered under the heading of "insanity". :)
It's weeks like this though that help make it all worthwhile.
We have 19 amazing writers handling "Salt of the Earth", and while some of them do cover the same topic, it's still very much *their take*. It's still very much *them*.
By the close of the poll, we will have 17 - having lost the two contestants with the fewest votes It's been painful from day 1 to lose people. It's the part of the job that I like the least. (Well, OK, there is an argument to be made for some of the other parts. :P) But from here on out, I have a feeling that "painful" isn't going to nearly cover it. We've been together now for 28 weeks of competition - and add the introductory Week 0, sign up periods and the holiday breaks - not to mention the weeks where one "week" has gone over into another - and you have "a fair chunk of time".
That's dedication and the folks in this poll (and the people who have since left it for one reason or another) have shown it.
I - and the people reading your work - thank you for sharing with us.
You have a slightly "shorter than normal" time to read the entries, but hopefully people have continued the tradition of reading ahead before the poll is posted! So I would get started now - and tell your friends to come and *read* the entries. Yes, every vote counts, and remember to vote for your favorites (as always, you can vote for as many as want) - but feedback ends up counting for more in the bigger picture. :)
The poll closes Friday June 4th at 9pm EDT.
Good luck to everyone.
