Green Room - Week 24 - Day 3

There's so much going on in the world right now and I'm just a guy running a competition. So I'm not sure what I can say that isn't already being said far better by other folks out there. So if you know of a voice that needs to be amplified on the serious issues of the day - in a tiny corner of a remote outpost of the internet, feel free to post in the comments.

I'm happy to report though that we don't have any Confederate Battle Flags flying, and the only statues we have are the ones of our previous winners. Those statues will remain forever in the Hall of Victory.

I however will NOT be changing my policies toward brutality toward contestants. I will continue my brutal ways.

Idol is, and should always be a place for open dialogue about anything that people want to talk about - and there are plenty of things that can and should be debated - and different folks are going to have different lines and sometimes bumping up against those is how people learn and grow.

Being a racist isn't one of those things. I don't recall ever having an issue with that here - but then again, let's face it, to borrow a phrase about awards shows - Idol So White. (and Female) We've had periods where we were more diverse and other times when we were less diverse. I think Livejournal in general did manage to lose a lot of people with their policies over the years. So I'm sure that's a huge factor.

In more personal news - or at least closer to home - Florida is experiencing another big spike. Every time I start thinking "Things are looking good", there's another spike in cases. But this time it's the biggest that we've had yet and the percentage of positives is more than the increase in testing should be generating.

Just in time for more stuff to open. I get it, people need to work. But I'd hoped for better numbers when that started and definitely better practices. Unfortunately, people around here seem to be getting the message that "everything is OK now" and no longer wearing masks or social distancing. I'm still hoping for the best, but the whole point of shutting down was to not overwhelm hospitals and keep the infection rates under control. We did the first, but we did it so well that people decided that it must not have been a big deal in the first place - instead of "We did a good job at making sure it didn't get to that point."

I'll admit, there are times when that death toll is just overwhelming.

But I guess I always have a new poll to look forward to - where I can eliminate some more people in a much more fun way! (Yes, I reached for that transition to something positive, and I'm not remotely ashamed about it! :D)
