Green Room - Week 0 - Day 11

Good morning and welcome to the last day of Week 0.

Yes, I finally just said that. I know it was a long "week". But I'm hoping that people appreciated the additional time more than they were offended by a week being longer than it "should be". :)

Today is the deadline to get me your votes for the Veterans entries: and it will also be the day when we find out what the advantages are that the Newbies, and a Veteran, are going to have at their disposal.

So make sure to finish your reading and get in your votes! If you have sent them to me and *haven't* received a confirmation email (as of this post), please let me know. (Note: the closer we get to 7pm EST, the longer it may take to send out those emails. But as of the moment I hit "post" on this, I'm caught up)

Also of interest - today is the day when the WEEK 1 TOPIC will be posted! Which means this train is about to leave the station. (before picking up steam, going full-throttle, jumping the tracks and crashing down the side of the mountain)

So if you are reading this, and you still haven't signed up, or if you know someone who you think *should*, that window is shrinking rapidly: (it closes on the deadline for Week 1 entries, which again, you will find out tonight!)

I've seen a lot of requests for spreadsheets lately. Heck, I've made a few because I still haven't made mine yet!

I've seen some people who literally only have a list of names, and others with detailed colored charts on who received their votes which week, as well as other criteria.

What you have, or don't have, on a spreadsheet, is highly personalized.

For those of you who DO like keeping spreadsheets - what sorts of information do you keep track of from the season? (and do you have one I can borrow? :D)

What suggestions do you have for anyone who has an interest in keeping one, but has never ventured down that path before?

Results - Week 0

Sometimes a contestant only vote is a blow out, and sometimes it's one of those exciting horseraces where someone pulls ahead by a nose coming around that last bend. Which makes it exciting for me, but it does mean that I have to get out the camera and capture that photo finish!

This was more of the latter. There were a few people who I thought would end up taking it, but in the end, the Veterans ended up with exactly the same as the Newbies, in a TIE!

Which means that there will be two Veterans getting the advantage as well. Which should really shake up the game from the onset, having four of something where I originally thought there would only be two!

The two contestants with the most votes from the Veterans are:

lilmissmagic71 and rayaso!

I'm sure you are wondering what the two of you - as well as the two winners from the Newbies poll marlawentmad and my_name_is_jenn are receiving is AN IMMUNITY!

Any time you need it, between now and the Top 50, it can be played and it will save you from elimination. To make things more interesting, you can also play it on someone else, and it will save them. (You just have to let me know your intention and hour before the poll closes. "If so-and-so is going to be eliminated, I want to save them") (Note: This doesn't cancel an elimination, it just means someone else leaves)

I promised a huge advantage would be up for grabs, and I think this qualifies!

Topic - Week 1

Hello and welcome to the first topic of LJ Idol Season 10!

There was going to be whole spiel here, but I'll save that for the Work Room and just let you know that your first topic is:

I need the struggle to feel alive

The deadline to link your entries back to this thread is Wednesday, Nov 23rd at 8pm EST

(Please remember that the topic thread is for posting of links only - and declaration of a "bye" being taken. You have two of them for this season, usable until the Top 50. All other comments should go to linked entries or to the Work Room)

Have fun!

Work Room - Week 1

The Week 1 topic is up:

I won't lie, I went back and forth on how to start this season.

Heck, I went back and forth on the deadline. At one point it was going to be Thursday (which happens to be Thanksgiving in the US) and Cynthia literally said "Don't be an asshole!" So I decided not to do that. I should, however, point out that this isn't the "regular schedule" either. It's part of the "slow start", that will even out as we progress through the season.

I landed on the topic due to a couple reasons: (1) My love for all things Beach Slang - I'll save you the Googling time and let you know that it's a lyric from one of their songs: and (2) a discussion about the line and how it felt like how they felt about their own writing.

So it seemed like a good fit, and the rest of the season seemed to fall into place for me after that. (more or less)

But it's not about where I go with it that's important - it's where you go.

I'm saying this both as a guide for newbies, but also a reminder for veterans, especially those who may not have been around in awhile - or have gotten rusty - The topic is the launching pad, not the destination.

This is your Work Room, a place to hammer out and discuss different ideas - or to just talk about writing in general. Really, it's whatever you need it to be.

At the end of every topic post, I say "Have fun", and I hope that you do!
