Green Room - Week 9 - Day 7

Congratulations to our own sra33 for her work (well, it was a team, but I don't care about those people - we all know it was all her!) on DEADPOOL!

I haven't seen it yet, but from what I've heard it's great. Now that I know the Idol connection, I definitely need to go see it!!

Reminder to myself: When writing the Work Room tonight, remember to bring up the Lion King.

Reminder to the voters: The poll closes tonight - http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/894182.html

What have you loved this week, that you want to make sure other people take a look at? Given how close these votes have been this entire mini-season, it's always good to let other people know what they might be missing!

What would you like to remind yourself about today?

Results - Week 9

This week was another extremely difficult choice, that came down to another close vote.

I keep saying this, but it keeps being true, that this seems to be the hallmark of the mini-season.

There's some bad news - and some good news as well.

First, the bad news, we are losing:

We also have a tie, which means that there will be another Sudden Death battle, this time between fan favorites lawchicky and yachiru

and now the good... the second chance I've been talking about is starting THIS week. I'll be making a post in a little bit. I hope to see all of you - and those who have fallen along the way - fighting for a chance to get back into the game.

Second Chance Gauntlet - 1

If you have been eliminated this mini-season (or missed your chance to get involved), now is your chance!

Unlike in the past, this will be a week-to-week adventure for the next couple of weeks. You won't get "voted out", you can only get "voted in".

But once you are, then you will need to meet the current week's deadline.

It's an "Open Topic", which means that you can write anything you want!

The deadline to submit your entry, for the first Second Chance shot, is tomorrow, Feb 16th at 9pm EST

Have fun!

Work Room - Week 10

The results from last week are in:

and the new topic is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/894992.html

There is even a chance for folks to get back into the game: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/895399.html

and now I talk about the Lion King.

We went to see it last night. It was my Christmas present from Cynthia. They had never seen it before, I had seen it years ago, and had always wanted to take them. So, they decided to take me instead! :)

It was a lot of fun (and they enjoyed it), but one of the surprises was that "Morning Report" was no longer part of the show.

Apparently, it was cut (along with a total of 9 minutes) from the show back in 2010.

Which got me thinking about editing and the importance of being able to take a good, hard look at your own work and figure out how to streamline it.

In the case of "Morning Report", I loved that bit - but I know it didn't really do anything to drive the narrative forward. It was just sort of there as a funny bit. I definitely missed it, but I doubt anyone who has never seen the musical before knew there was anything missing.

What is YOUR editing process, what do you find yourself cutting out from your pieces - and how does that impact you when you are actually writing and notice something that fits the pattern of things that usually end up on your cutting room floor?
