Green Room - Week 1 - Day 7

Those of us watching the situation play out in Crimea have been waiting to see what the next step was going to be. In the wee hours of the morning, something happened that I'm not sure anyone was expecting.

The Russian Livejournal Support Techs annexed parts of Tumblr, Facebook and a few SubReddits.

Declaring this "the liberation of terrorities stolen from us years ago" Livejournal has already announced that they have started a resettlement plan for the LJ "anon communities". They will be moved to the newly vacated portions of Facebook where they will be forced to log in and comment under their real names, so that they will be held socially responsible for the things that they say.

There is no word on how this will impact the long-running civil war between the LJ factions of "People Who Think the Internet Should Be Used to Go After Everything and Everything, Except Themselves" and "Social Diversity Warriors Who Haven't Lived Outside the Academic Environment". These bitter foes have been at it for years, cutting large swaths through the internet, and dragging the majority of folks (who are somewhere in the middle) into their battles. The rest of the population of LJ is waiting to see if that cools with the new acquisitions or the conflict continues to spread.

Tumblr will continue as the image sharing portion of LJ, while no one is really sure what use Reddit will be, but they are sure that people will still post there anyway - as they are further brought into what people are calling "The Second Livejournal Empire"!

While we are waiting for that to play out, we have our own empire building to do within these very halls! Some will live! Some will die be eliminated!! Who will it be? We will know tonight! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/716621.html Get out there and support your favorites, and let people know what they might be missing!

(Note for newbies: Within a half hour/hour of those results being posted, the Week 2 Topic and Work Room will be released. Just a heads up)

Results - Week 1

It’s that time again.

The time where I make the worst post of the week and send people home from the competition.

This being the first one of the season, it’s always a crapshoot on “Who will it be?”

Even under the best of circumstances, it still sucks.

Tonight we say goodbye to one of our more controversial figures of the season and the two youngest contestants, we also say goodbye to someone who is one of my personal favorite contestants of all time.

Leaving us this week (in order of tribe)

and - in a complete surprise, we have our first sacrifice in Tribe 4. tijuanagringo

Thank you so much, all of you for coming out. I especially hope that the minors will play the Home Game this season!

Work Room - Week 2

The Week 1 results are up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/717791.html

and the new Topic is coming shortly. edit to add link: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/718214.html

I usually post the new topic first, and then the Work Room. Most weeks, you will see that formula. This week though, I’m changing it up a bit!

Why? Because I want to mention a couple things before people start posting:

(1) It’s not a race. Regardless of any gimmicks out there, you should take the time to work on your entries until you are satisfied with them. (Well, within the allotted time period!) If you can bang out something awesome - great! If you just want to do something for the sake of getting it done, well, OK. But they say that every week is someone’s first time reading you.

That’s especially true in the first couple weeks of Idol.

If you pick up a book from an author you don’t know and it’s not something you want to read, will you check out the second? Maybe. But if the second one isn’t either, I doubt you are going to give the third a glance on the shelf.

Which isn’t to say that some people can’t do great things in a short period of time. Of course they can - a glance at any given week’s Topic post has tons of great stuff on the first couple of pages. I just want to make sure that I’ve said it. Hopefully you will keep that in mind.

(2) if you have to write “the topic is” or “when I saw the topic” in order to get to where you are going, OK. But it had better be the best damn thing I’ve ever seen. Because you’ve pretty close to losing me at that point. Let the topic guide you - not handcuff you to a spot. These are your entries, in your voice, in that moment, make me forget there is a writing competition at all, and I’m just there to enjoy what you have to say.

You do that, and you’re going to be in a good position to keep me coming back for more.

(3) Have fun. Don’t let any of this get to you. Because at the end of the day, it’s about you having a good time doing something that you love.

What gave you the biggest problems during Week 1? How do you think you can overcome them for Week 2?

100 Weeks

Surviving a week in LJ IDOL can wreck your nerves. Surviving a season has been known to knock even the toughest out of commission for awhile.

Imagine doing Idol, and then coming back for more - each and every time!

Imagine *getting better* every year? Going from a random face in the crowd to one of the people who has become known by pretty much everyone?

With the results posted, it's official. Someone has joined the ranks of the "100 Weeks Club". Over the course of their Idol career, they have managed to survive 100 of those polls, and multiple seasons back to back. (She would have made it sooner if the Exhibits "counted" toward the total.)

It's a very small and exclusive group. But it just got one more member, and a whole lot more icons.

I've been typing her name forever, and I still have to look it up to make sure I got it right, because I think of her as "Ro" or sometimes "Laura", but since this is all official, better user the actual user name and say

Congratulations to roina_arwen
