Green Room - Week 19 - Day 7

Why do I have "The Final Countdown" in my head? ;)

Before the Gatekeepers finish sending me their picks, and I sort through them and see what they have to say collectively - I just want to take a moment to thank them in public. :)

I have no idea what they are going to come up with, other than having a decent idea of where their tastes are at, as you know from your own experiences, sometimes your tastes vary. Something you might like one week just doesn't hit you right the next. I'm sure there are times when you've gone back over an entry, or a book/song/movie months after the fact and looked at it again going "Man, I love this now!"

So even though I know them - who knows what is going to tickle this fancy this particular week! :)

I actually like that. It keeps me on my toes as well, and there are usually a few curveballs in the mix with the results because of that. It keeps Idol in general on it's toes!

I've seen comments about "The Gatekeepers like (insert concept)" or "they probably won't like (insert other concept") and I've cocked my head to the side and stared at it for awhile.

I know a lot of it is nerves. Saying someone won't like something is a standard defense mechanism, so if they don't - then you were right! If they do - then you were still right, but obviously it was better than you thought/as good as you thought it was in your heart. :)

People who have been around Idol for several seasons know this - but the newbies don't, so it's something that I can't repeat enough. You take the time and put in the effort week after week to stay in the competition. Hopefully you have come to love it, like it or at least put up with it! :P

Gatekeepers aren't currently involved in Idol. They have nothing at stake and are coming back (1) to help out Idol and (2) Do me what I consider to be an immense favor.

Their usual "thanks" is risking people mad at them for helping boot someone!

So, why we wait for the results - I just want to thank them again, and thank all of you contestants who are currently waiting patiently with your necks on those chopping blocks. (it's a good look for you though, you should consider doing it every week. :P) What you put out there week after week is amazing. Regardless of the outcome of this round (or any round for that matter) you have so much to be proud of, and I hope you truly know that.

Before we have the results, we have the reveal! :)

The Gatekeepers step out of the shadows and into the light as they stand aside one at a time to reveal who will be walking through, and which runs are sadly coming to an end.

Some of them are familiar faces, others you might not know right away. I’ll try to explain those ones. :)

Of course we have some previous winners

tru2myart - Winner of Season 2
chite - Winner of Season 4
boxsofrain - Winner of Season 5
beautyofgrey - Winner of Season 6

We also have Jason Snyder. He doesn’t have an LJ but when I asked him if he wanted me to pimp something, he sent me this: http://www.grayhavencomics.com/ He has work in Volumes 1 and 3.

More importantly though, those of you who know your Idol History(tm) know that before I came up with Idol I ran a season of something called “Fanfic Survivor”. People I knew from fanfic (and some I knew from real life) facing each other in Survivor-on-the-internet type challenges involving writing. It was a lot of fun even if the format wasn’t quite “right”. :)

Jason was the first and only winner of Fanfic Survivor. Thus he’s “sort of” Idol Family. :) Without him, and the others who played, and the fun we had - there wouldn’t be an Idol.

Who else was in the mix? A couple newbies this year, contestants who, had real life not interfered, I think would have had a really good chance of being on the other side of things:
and one former contestant in both Idol *and* Fanfic Survivor: adpaz!

And? Yes there’s more “ands”:
People who shouldn’t need an introduction - other than I’m introducing everyone:
(some random person that I found on the street. . . I doubt anyone knows who she is though. . .)
and the always colorful and opinionated lordrexfear!

The final Gatekeeper is under figure like Jason who hasn’t played Idol before. But he was the very first writer who ever talked about my own work online. I know he would rather that I was spending my time working on my own work, but I’m grateful that he agreed to help out with Gatekeeper duties in Idol. He no longer has his barryreese account, but that’s who he is - Barry Reese. http://www.barryreese.net/

Thank you to all of you for your assistance, the time and consideration you put into making your individual decisions.

Results - Week 19

Before we get the actual results, there are two drops to report. As most of you know, m_malcontent decided that he didn't like the entry submitted and made the decision to bow out.

What you might not know is that secretlysidhe, the last standing "alt"/contestant playing with more than one account made the decision to bow out as well. She wanted to only compete with one, and not risk taking a spot in Top 50 from someone who she saw as deserving of it.

I hate losing them both, but I do respect their reasons for doing it.

Now for the annoucement - we originally actually had roughly 8 people leaving this week. Because of these two leaving, I reduced it down to roughly6.

As it worked out, we would have had about 10 going the other way, and this dividing line worked out to be exactly 6.

It's pretty much a mixture of newbies and veterans, as well as people that I am positive we will continue to see around and playing the Home Game and others where I can only hope that will be the case.

Leaving us this week are:

Thank you to all of you for playing this season!

Topic - Week 20

Shhhhh... we are so close. You can feel it now can't you?

So let's keep it down, maybe just to a

and maybe we can sneak through this field before the monsters wake up and devour us all!

Well, OK, devour you. I'm the one who put them there. :)

The deadline to link your entry back here is Tuesday April 5th at 9pm EDT

Have fun!
