I post this every year, and I mean it every year.
Back in December of 2010 I wanted to change my life. So I decided that on New Years Eve, I would start this new year right by playing the song "Positive Jam" as the first thing I heard of the New Year.
They were my favorite band at the time, and it was the first song off their first album. It's a declaration of what they are about - "We're gonna start it with a Positive Jam"... not a heady concept. But one that stuck with me.
2011 was when I met Cynthia.
Every year since then, I've started my year off with that song.
And yes, there has been some darkness in those years. But even with the people we've lost, and the hard times, the times of doubt... I've never felt that level of despair, that hopelessness.
It's just a song. Maybe it means nothing to you. You might not like it. If I know this crowd, there's going to be at least one person who is going to go out of their way to tell me that they don't like it. :)
It's not about the song itself though - it's about the intention behind it. Pick something positive - and put it out there in the universe. Say "this is how my year is going to start!" and focus on that.
Will it work? Maybe. But if it doesn't, at least you put something positive out there - and that's never a bad thing.
