Green Room - Week 2 - Day 5

The poll went up last night: https://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1070123.html

So make sure to read, comment and vote for your favorites!

I only have a few minutes before my ride gets here, so I'll make this short. I'm not sure that I will have even a borrowed computer at work today! Hopefully something ends up working out. IT hasn't managed to get me one in *over a week* of back and forth! Yay for paperwork!

Hope your day goes better than I suspect mine might! :)

Send good thoughts, and a laptop with a docking station...

I hope your day goes wonderfully!

my week is sucktacular, and it's half exhaustion (I could go to bed early, but no I am reading idol entries) and half I got given a huge job I did NOT want but I have no way of not doing it. And it isn't that I will be bad at it. I can definitely feel my own internal prejudices jumping up. *sigh*

that's why I gotta get outta my head, right?

I feel ya. I was also given a huge job that I don’t want - updating computer/monitor/laptop inventories. Ugh. Best of luck with yours!

In the mean time are you doing your work with a quill and parchment? :D

This conjured an amusing image. Thank you!

Well, after the hell that is six nights closing shift at work, I'm now on a more or less regular day schedule this week. Go figure, lol. But yeah, I'm still reeling from all that. I know I've been saying it for years but I'm really getting too old for all this 😨

Happy Tuesday everybody!

Good morning, early Green Roomies! I’m SO not a morning person, ugh, but here we are. Work is busy between being assigned to help update computer/monitor/laptop inventory and trying to get files pulled and archived. I repeat: ugh.
Oct. 8th, 2019 11:47 am (UTC)
Ugh. That’s sucky about the computer. I’m having a pretty craptacular week too. Mainly dealing with my apartment. I had a bunch of termites in my bedroom earlier today (err yesterday, I haven’t been to bed yet), they came in through my window I suspect. That’s a main reason I haven’t been to sleep yet - I keep thinking I should move my bed away from where I’ve seen them, but that’s a huge hassle.

I’ve read about half the entries so far. I think I may get finished before the poll closes this time. Yay me!

/o\ Termites!

That's a panic situation right there, and how can you stop thinking about them once you know they've been inside? *cries*

In an improvement from last week, I actually dropped a few comments while I was reading. Not many, but I'm trying. As I age, I find it's harder sometimes to come up with something to say. I also managed to finish my reading last night.

Is it harder to come up with something to say, or perhaps just worrying less about needing to comment on everything?

Good thoughts to you, Gary! And your own work computer!

Hope your day is much better than you think. As for me, I'm going to be busy, busy, busy. ;-)

My priority for today is reading all the juicy entries. I read them in chunks of five at a time and mix them up from top, middle, and bottom to make sure that if I can't read them all, I only get to those from the top. I was wondering how others plow through the ballot?
Oct. 8th, 2019 04:13 pm (UTC)
Traditionally, I've kept a running tally of who I've voted for, and how many times. Then I order the list by the number, reading from the highest numbers first, and on down the line. That way, I know if I run out of time, at least I will be reading entries I know I'm likely to enjoy and vote for, so it's less likely anyone loses out in my votes. Though, if I do run out of time, I keep reading after the poll is closed, and keep adding the numbers just as I would if I'd gotten the chance to vote, so no one misses out on having their rank impacted by my timing.

This year being the first I'm juggling Idol with a baby and being a single parent during weeknights, I don't know how much of that I'm going to be able to keep up with.

Or even writing, for that matter... This week's entry took me 5 days to write, not just because if finding time, but also because I had no idea when I selected this story for the topic I've been meaning to write up for 2 decades how emotionally challenging it would be having to relive those experiences as I brought them back to life in words. :-/

Good luck at work Gary. May your day be full of functioning computers.

My sister is getting married in 4 days, and we are down to the last tweaks for her big day. I had kept writing the entry for this week at the back of my mind, but I thought for sure the deadline was this Thursday, so when I checked this morning and saw the poll up, it took me by surprise. But, I'll just repeat what I've been telling everyone who asks me when I am going to do anything.

After the wedding.

Aw, I wondered why we didn't see a story from you this week-- and it's all the sadder because you intended to write one and worked on it, and yet didn't make the deadline.

At least you might have a drawer-fic for a future week, then? This prompt had a lot of broad possibilities. Almost too many, which is what got me into deadline trouble (I posted with about 2 minutes left).

Just trying to get through the entries as I binge on some shows on Netflix in the background. There are a lot of great things to read and some super talented people here.

This is a lot more fun than I expected!

Yay, bureaucracy! I ran into something similar when I needed someone to come move a bunch of furniture from our office (ancient desks, mostly).

The steps were something like:

1). Get permission from my boss to scrap stuff so my team actually has room to, y'know, work
2). Fill out a form relinquishing a claim to the furniture.
3). Label all the furniture that is to be moved with labels indicating that it is to be moved (MOVE TO BASEMENT STORAGE).
4). Get a call from the building manager saying that the earliest they can possibly move everything is November (this was in August...)
5). Show up after Labor Day Weekend and find all furniture except an ugly filing cabinet is gone.
6). Call to ask what happens to filing cabinet.
7). "Well, you didn't include it in your removal request, so you'll have to fill out another one".
8). Send PDF of original request with arrow pointing to "1 3-drawer filing cabinet, gray".
9). Radio silence.
10). No, seriously, I've contacted them again and again and the filing cabinet is still here; I've since given up and I'm going to start using it as an end table, because fuck it, I guess I'm stuck with it.

I hope your laptop request is more expedient...

That whole process sounds like a nightmare. And also like it's the rule, rather than the exception. :O

I hope you get a work computer soooon!

So far my day is good. I am roasting pork shoulder. I have conflicting thoughts about eating pigs. *sigh* I need to answer comments and finish reading entries. I've been dealing with RA things and sinus stuff so ugh!

Today was not a good day.
