Idol Minor Season 2 is still on track for the May 1st start date!

So tell a friend. Or two friends... I'd say to tell random kids on the street, but that's kind of creepy and could get you in trouble. So tell their parents to let them know!

It's a 4 week adventure that I'm hoping will be as fun for the young writers involved as it is for me to run. Actually, I hope it's even MORE fun for them! :)

Thank you to our Patrons, who make things like this possible, and have made it easier for me to keep Idol going over these last few years. If you are interested in joining their ranks in supporting Idol, and are in a position to do so: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027

I need to update the rewards to reflect the upcoming season. Is there anything that might interest you as a "reward"? Trying to come up with ideas, but finding out what people actually want is better than guessing. :)

You mean rewards for your patrons or rewards for participants in LJ minor?

In this case I meant "rewards for Patrons".

I did post on my facebook a few days back asking for ideas for rewards for contestants in Idol Minor. But those would have to either be donated, or I put out a "sponsor this event" call and use the proceeds toward getting them. :)

Well, I think as far as the LJ Minor contestants are concerned, books would be a great reward. Or maybe an Amazon.com gift card? I'd be happy to contribute towards any campaign you'd have for that. Maybe there's somebody in the LJ Idol pantheon who's written some children's books?

As far as patrons are concerned, I'd have to look at the list of rewards that currently exist and get back to you.

I'm going to talk to KFP tonight and make sure he's on board for Season 2. I'm pretty sure he will be. This week he was making a superhero comic at the bus stop with a friend. :)

The Amazon gift card for everyone who finishes all 4 weeks was actually the idea that I had a few months back. I floated it to a parent with Idol Minor aged writers and the response wasn't great. It wasn't awful, but *my interpretation* of their response was that they thought it could come off wrong, or teach kids the wrong lesson about writing... I was just looking for a nice way to say thank you to them. (as well as a test balloon for a much bigger idea that I have. :D)

My son told me he was too shy to participate. Having a reward incentive might actually be the way to change his mind. Amazon gift card would be fine if I can get a video game he wants from Amazon (video games tend to be the best incentive for him).

Oh, I see. I understand the desire to make writing be its own rewards. Maybe just a cool icon for them to use online or on LJ?

What about a small compilation zine distributed to all of the contestants at the end of the run? It could feature one favorite piece by each contestant with a possible illustration for each story, poem, or comic. The Zine could be in .pdf format and sent via email or google docs after the series is finished.

I think the contestants seeing their work in print with others would be a great morale boost, and it would give friends and family a chance to look at the featured talent of all of the writers involved.

That's a great idea! I guess we'd need some volunteers to put it together, though.

*nods* The idea has come up before with the main competition (and of course there were two actual books) and my reaction has been the same every time - I know nothing of putting that sort of thing together, from a technical standpoint.

If someone wants to do it, let me know and I'll work with you to help arrange everything and oversee the "making sure it's worthy of the Idol name" part of it. :)
