Results - Week 27

The final stretch of votes are always the most brutal. Because you have folks who, with the right bounce, *could* conceivably win. But things don't end up going their way, and you end up saying goodbye.

Still - they survived 26 weeks, and got into the Top 8, which is something that's always pretty remarkable!

So, congratulations to everyone for making it to this point.

Before I get to that though, I'm going to deal with Immunity. There was a chance that this could have been the final week, if two of the three people still eligible were to be eliminated. They were not. (Spoiler). So the Jury is continuing one more time.

I also want to address voting - mainly, the fact that this week featured *three* BRAND NEW ACCOUNTS who voted. Now, "yay, people joining Livejournal!" might be a response. But they were created TODAY. Had they impacted the results (which they DID NOT) we would be having a different conversation. So I'm putting this out there, since this isn't the first time it's ever happened - when you are turning out the vote, make sure you are telling people they can only vote ONCE. Actually, from all appearances, they did. So it's not even a double vote. But if you know "my Aunt Suzie wants to vote for me and is setting up an account to do so" just *let me know*, so I can be aware of what it is before I have to take time up looking for patterns and time stamps.

Anyway - as I said, it impacted nothing in tonight's result. But in the coming weeks, it might... and that will end up hurting the person they want to help. So just make sure to let people know to keep their "I NEED TO HELP" in check and above board in voting...

So, anyway... the Jury and the immunity they handed out. Week after week I tell you that it came down to "a vote" or sometimes "a couple votes". It's the pattern of the season, so that's what you are expecting me to say.

I'm not going to say that.

It was a bit of a blowout.

This week, the Jury awards immunity to messygorgeous! Congratulations!

Now, she didn't *need* it to survive this week, but having that safety is always nice.

The actual poll though, DID come down to a single vote.

We are losing two contestants who did *really* well in the last Contestant Only votes and with the Gatekeepers. A newbie and a veteran.

I was expecting to see at least one of them in the finale. But it kept shifting which one it would be.

Instead, we are saying goodbye to

The good news is that you do get to take part in the final week for the Jury!

The bad news is that we won't be seeing your entry in the poll next week. But I really hope we will in the Home Game.

Once upon a time there was a little octopus who liked to tell weird stories. For a long time, though, the little octopus didn't have an active writing community to write for, and it kind of got out of the habit of writing. Then one day the octopus got invited to participate in an online writing competition. It thought that sounded like fun, but was nervous about how its weird stories would be received by a group of strangers.

Well, it turns out that everyone in the group was super nice, and they said nice things about the ghoulish fairy tales and other strangeness that the octopus came up with week after week. Sometimes the octopus did really well in the polls, too, and the octopus was very happy.

As the competition began to close in on the final weeks, though, things were getting harder. The little octopus was having trouble coming up with fun things to write for the prompts, and it didn't really like writing sad things very much. It started to become commonplace for the octopus to frantically write something in a couple of hours just before the deadline, and it was starting to feel bad that it wasn't really putting forward its best work anymore.

Eventually, the octopus fell to the bottom of the polls, and it was sad to be eliminated, but proud of how far it had made it through the contest. The octopus thought that, all things considered, it was probably for the best, because it was really starting to burn out and felt bad about not bringing the much vaunted "A Game" that was asked for.

The lesson to be learned here is that on the Internet no one knows that you're an octopus.

Thanks to everyone who read, commented, and/or voted. I had a lot of fun. = )

I'm sorry to see you go! I always looked forward to seeing what crazy entries you came up with every week! Your Costco entry is one of my very favorite entries out of this entire competition.

For an octopus, you did amazingly well <3333

I enjoyed bringing the crazy! While brainstorming I would always try to come up with a take that hopefully no one else would also use.

That's so kind of you to say about my Costco entry! Of the things I wrote for the competition, it's definitely on my short list of favorites as well. It was very gratifying to see how many others shared my dread of the big box stores. = )

You played a fantastic game of croquet beneath the waves, lil octopus.
Aug. 14th, 2017 07:56 am (UTC)
Thanks! If only I hadn't flubbed this last sticky wicket. = )

You're an octopus?! How absolutely wonderful! If we ever meet I'll bring you something sparkly for your garden. Hugs

At no point have I ever claimed to actually be an octopus.

...at no point have I ever denied being an octopus. = )
Aug. 14th, 2017 05:38 am (UTC)
You were certainly well armed to write some really wonderful tales throughout! And thanks for being great and offering your responses as well! You definitely earned your place as a top writer!
Aug. 14th, 2017 08:04 am (UTC)
Thanks! I'm very grateful to everyone who has been so supportive these past several months.
Aug. 14th, 2017 07:39 am (UTC)
I am glad you had Fun :) Coz I am really looking forward to see you again next season. You earned a fan with your writing.I enjoyed reading everything you wrote. Cheers!

Aw, thank you. I would certainly be interested in a future season. I think it will do me some good to take a little break in here, though. My tentacles are tired. = )

Sorry to see the octopus go but it did a fantastic job!
Aug. 15th, 2017 05:33 am (UTC)
Thanks! = )

Hahaha! I will miss that octopus, and its tangled tales...

I'm late, thanks to last week's vacation, but I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your entries over the season and the delirious conviction with which you told them. \o/

I even friended you a couple of weeks ago, in the hope that you occasionally post non-Idol things.

Here's hoping you Home Game until the end, and will come back to Idol again at the next opportunity!
Aug. 24th, 2017 11:14 pm (UTC)
Ooh, "delirious conviction" - I like that!

I have reciprocated the friending. I've sort of fallen out of the habit of posting random day-to-day events, but you never know.

I definitely needed a week off last week, and I'm not sure this week lends itself well to Home Gaming. We'll see what the future holds! Probably zombies and giant crabs, but maybe there will be some interesting bits in the nearer future.

I can't believe we're losing probably the two most creative people in one swoop. Seriously, hwango and yachiru, your entries were always so inventive and often funny and unexpected.

I really, really enjoyed both of you and totally thought I'd see you both in or near the finals. I'm a bit bummed we won't!
Aug. 14th, 2017 07:49 am (UTC)
Thanks! I am sad not have made it further, but very pleased to have made it as far as I did. I'm glad you enjoyed my contributions. = )
Aug. 14th, 2017 04:27 am (UTC)
Just so many hugshugshugshugs to yachiru. I found your poem this week to be so beautifully done, so tragic. All of your work this season has been exemplary. I always feel that you're showing us a rare gem you've secreted away in your pocket when you share your characters!
Aug. 14th, 2017 07:41 am (UTC)
Both are such amazing writers and I have enjoyed their work till date. *Hugs* yachiru you really are a master creator of abstract. Kudos! Cheers!
Aug. 14th, 2017 08:22 pm (UTC)
hwango, it was great to meet you this season and to see what weird takes on the prompt you wrote. Your pieces were always extremely enjoyable.

yachiru, you are, always have been, and always will be one of my favorite writers, and I am sad to see you go. <3
Aug. 15th, 2017 05:36 am (UTC)
I'm glad you enjoyed my weekly doses of weird. = )
Aug. 16th, 2017 12:41 am (UTC)
Thanks to everyone who voted and commented. I've enjoyed reading all of your entries and never thought I'd get this far. ^^ I haven't been social at all this game due to some deaths in the family but I've been reading and I love all of the content ya'll put out each week.
Aug. 23rd, 2017 08:46 pm (UTC)
This was another amazing and creative season for you, and such good, solid writing all the way to the end.

I know it was a tough year, but I'm glad you stayed with us even when things were at their worst. *hugs*
Aug. 16th, 2017 08:47 pm (UTC)
Both of you fine writers are on my favorite contributors list. I hope to read more of your fantastic work in the future. I've had such a fun romp through your Idol journey.
