Green Room - Week 23 - Day 7

I have a secret.

But not for long, because I'm going to share it with you. Because I think you can handle it.

Maybe you can handle it.

I guess we will see.

I know people are concerned about the lack of comments on their entries. Here's the thing - part of that is out of your hands because LJ isn't what it used to be.

But, and here's the secret - part of that is *entirely* in your own hands, as much as anything else does.

I saw people committing to commenting on everyone's entries this week - and that's great. That's a solid start. If everyone did that, every week, there might not be a problem to start with.... people *talking* solves the problem of feeling the silence.

So does *telling people about Idol and other people's entries*. Not just "go here and click this button*! But "there's really good stuff out there" and posting a link to it!

I know, that's a commitment, and maybe you can't get other people to bow to your whims. I know, I try every day to do it. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. (Seriously though - it *should* work. People need to obey me more!!! :D)

But the solution to silence isn't more silence. It's the people who are directly invested turning up the volume and getting the word out. This isn't a bubble. It can't be. If it is, then yes, it will starve. It will be endless silence until it's not worth the effort.

I've been trying to get the word out on social media. But we need to turn that knob to 11!

This is the part of the season that's *always* quiet, when the people who are out get distracted and go do something else. They tend to come back in the last couple of weeks once things are winding down. But this section is always a bit of a slog. Which means it's up to those who are still here, who still care, to take up the slack to get their attention! If it's just with your screams of pain! :D

Re: :-)
Is that a fist bump? Nice!

I have been remiss in commenting lately. We had the big vacation and it is summer reading at my library, which may not sound like much of an excuse, but we are the busiest library system in GA and the summer program is the equivalent of Black Friday for retail, only it lasts eight weeks! We offer some kind of programming nearly every single day for two months, and that takes more than 40 hours a week for me to manage!

I think the time of year, coupled with where we are at this season in Idol means much less commentary.

In other news, GARY! You must hate hanging out with us if you are planning to eliminate 40% of your contestants in one fell swoop!! That's intense, man!

Bwahahahaha! I am so ashamed at my blushing innocence!

The horns are great too, giggle. Forgive me for being such a marshmallow of a children's librarian!

It's great, isn't it? bleodswean posted it a while back and I have loved it ever since. It's like they totally reinvented this classic, creating a new classic.

I hope I'm not one of the people considered to be "concerned about comments" because I am not! :) I get hugely generous and positive comments each entry and I'm beholden to the Idol community for each and every comment I receive! I also try to comment on every entry and have done so from the beginning. I do read all the entries as I believe that's part of this crazy roller coaster game.

My concern, from yesterday's post, is about a general quietness that is reflected in the GRs and from some of the players.

I know that it's said that each season is different and has its own flavor and tone...and that's great! But silence can make it difficult to gauge a flavor and tone.

LiveJournal is a similar conversation - where are all the peoples?! And of those who are still here, why all the silence?? I don't know the answer to either of these questions.

I really do think it is summer seasonal busy-ness and general life busy-ness keeping people away. Also, as more people get eliminated, I know from experience that it kinda hurts to keep reading on here after you've been "kicked out." This deep in the game there just aren't that many folks consistently reading due to that factor too.

I don't have any other social media accounts to speak up for Idol on, LiveJournal is the only place I hang out online. My journal has been radio silent other than entries for a while now, which wasn't planned but I haven't quite been able to break back though that silence.

I remember thinking recently that if two people a week were eliminated Idol would run for 9 more weeks. I should have realized that meant more evil was a-coming.

I thought we had at least 5 weeks left. I was figuring three eliminated this week, one for each topic - silly me - and then four weeks left.

While we're talking about comments, I just want to say thank you to everyone for all your lovely comments on my entries every week. I'm not always very good at replying to comments — that is definitely my Idol (and life) weakness, and I need to work on that — but I really do appreciate everyone who takes the time to read and comment.

I do try to read and comment to everyone's as well. I wasn't so good at that in the beginning of the season — I bow down to those of you who found a way to read 100+ entries a week — but I honestly look forward to reading all of them. Especially now. Everyone's are always so good, and it's so hard to vote. Whoever does end up winning this thing definitely deserves it!

Agreed. People who read everything in the early weeks, hats off to you! I tried to find the time, but sometimes, I couldn't. That's why folks like Rayoso and Bleodswean deserve a medal!

At this point, everyone is writing really impressive things. It is a pleasure!!

Mmmmm, screams of pain!

I can't do any more commenting on entries than I already do, but I will try to do more of the pimping.

I'm usually more engaged in the GR than this season, but the whole work thing really put a dent in that. o_O Still, I'm here today! So, yay? \o?

Though again... screams of paaaaain!
Jul. 7th, 2017 05:01 am (UTC)
Yes, YAY!!

I am so awkward about pimping. I gave up my Facebook back in December and haven't been back, so I'm not certain where I would pimp this, lol!

I tried Twitter briefly a couple years ago. I was crazy excited when author Rainbow Rowell responded to one of my tweets - even if it was to turn me down for a Skype visit with the teen writers group at my library - BUT at least she did respond!!

I'd make a TV commercial if I had the money for that.
