Green Room - Week 23- Weekend Edition

"I don't want to change - I don't want to be someone else"

That's not just the Doctor saying that.

It's most people.

It's me. It's you. Heck, it's what has been facing Idol itself this season.

It's that moment between what you are, and what you are going to become.

Celena became 14 today. :)

Technically, she "turned" 14 today, but that didn't fit the theme. She just transformed into a 14 year old without any notice. Before she turns 15, we will have passed over that mark where I have known her over half of her life. That's kind of amazing to think about.

Something that *you* should be thinking about is your entry: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1028263.html

Other than that, what have you been doing this weekend? Celebrating Canada Day? Gearing up for the 4th of July? Celebrating the 4th Canada Day of July?

Do we know who the next Doctor is going to be? I might start watching again. I stopped after about the third episode of this Doctor.

Of course, part of that was about the writing.

I've been gathering things and ideas together for my upcoming experiment with etsy commerce. I'm toggling between excitement and overwhelmedness. Stay tuned.

I have thought of opening an etsy store, but I an a very slow...worker. I'm eager to know how it goes for you.

I don't like this doctor. I didn't even get through the first ep with him. After 9, 10, and 11, I found him disappointing. Glad there is going to be another. There was a rumour 12 was going to be the last.

Hi! Happy birthday to selina!
It's been a crazy few days! Thursday I had to go to a conference on the other side of the state. This wouldn't have been as bad if I wasn't in a very uncomfortable accessible van for 4 hours each way! So that made my day ridiculous and by the time I got home I was almost deaf from the rattling of the lift in the van and crippled from going over bumps in the thing because I swear those vehicles don't have shocks!
But on the positive side, I've gone to 2 concerts and am ready to go to a 3rd. Saw Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs Friday. McEDonald was fair and everything sounded the same. But Boz was terrific! 73 and can still rock! Last night we saw Carlene Carter, Emmylou Harris and John Mellencamp. Emmylou sounds good but you can hear her strain after a while. Mellencamp was rough. He is a heavy smoker and it's taken a toll on his voice. He improved after a few songs but you could hear the deterioration. It was still fun. We're seeing Natalie Merchant tonight backed by the Boston Pops.
So that's my exciting life! haha. I'll need the day off on the 4th to recharge!

Wow! You have had a busy time. And guess what? I recognized ever singer you mentioned! (Grinning from ear to ear.)

I saw that John Mellencamp tour sbout a month ago and he sounded fine. Of course, it was the first or second night of the tour, so his voice wasn't getting the same daily workout it is now. And Emmylou is just quiet everywhere I guess, I kept wishing they'd turn her vocal up a bit when we saw her.

Happy Fourteenth to Celena!

I spent Canada's 150th Birthday at Sabbath Service, hanging out with my friends after the service. It was wonderful!

I honestly feel badly for Peter Capaldi. He probably should have been The Doctor earlier on - maybe even #9. He certainly fit in with the previous doctors in that they mostly had a bit of experience on them, had a sense of depth about them and seemed like they knew a lot.

What happened was the cutesy almost "romance" between #11 and Clara Oswald became odd when the older Capaldi took over for youngest ever Doctor, Matt Smith, and they spent a lot of the first couple of episodes lamenting that "now, he was old." Um... he's old no matter what he looks like and he's not a human! The whole thing was ridiculous.

They not only wasted time with that, they wasted the audience's goodwill. It got Capaldi off to a stumbling start and didn't let him establish anything to do with what should have been happening (that of rescuing Gallifrey) in a way that progressed the story and moved beyond #11.

There were only supposed to be twelve doctors, but they've already cheated that with "The War Doctor." I heard a rumour (well it's British you know), that they might continue Doctor Who for twelve more doctors, all of them female...

That would be very interesting, I think, and really, the only direction they should go.

Thirteen regenerations and the thirteenth was the Valeyard. They've already blown that continuity, so onward and upward!

DT as 10 was a hard act to follow, but MS was wonderful as 11. PC seems like a super nice guy, but I just couldn't see him as the doctor. So the next doctor is going to be a woman. Any chance it will be River Song? Is that her name? Now that would be truly fascinating, not to mention complicated.

I loved PC as the Doctor. I think penpusher nailed it, that the situation he was left with ended up being a lot of wasted space and opportunity - and then the following season was all about Jenna Coleman's contract. This season has shown what PC could have been doing with the character the entire time.

My first impression was not good, and as I wrote, I didn't stick around to see if it got better. Perhaps I will turn around during reruns. That's what happened for me with 10. :-)

Mostly I'm hoping for a deadline extension. This week is awful.
