Green Room - Week 19- Day 8

When you notice them, do you mention them? Do you let them go?

Does it depend on the circumstances? Or who it is that made it?

Last night, Cynthia mentioned how she's been reading the last few Green Rooms and was laughing at the number of typos I've been making. I pointed out that these tend to be done really quickly right before I start work (or during a slow period, where either way, I really don't want to screen up if someone walks in. Even if you *are allowed* to do it...)

Which got me thinking about typos and mistakes in general when I went to bed last night, and of course, I woke up to the post-covfefe world.

why hello there GR!
...and Happy Birthday! :throws confetti:

(gah, 11 YEARS?!? Thank you for making me feel older than I already am, LOL)

Typos: I tend to gloss over them. As owner of a laptop with somewhat sticky keys, a phone whose autocorrect is sometimes on drugs, and a typing speed of maybe 70-80 WPM, I make my own share of 'em all the time. But I do go back and correct them when I catch them. That's the English teacher in me. I'm nowhere near as anal if others make them, though, because it's usually obvious they're typos.

Yes, I'm very hard on myself. What else is new?

Re: why hello there GR!
Keep in mind that's 11 years since the community was founded, which was at the start of Season 2. So 11 years for Idol itself was a couple months ago. :)

Thinking of it as "11 years since Penny won"... now *that* is weird.

Holy crap, 11 years since she won...

:keels over:

She's seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Either that or she's signed off on social media entirely? I haven't heard from her nor seen her around in eons...

Re: why hello there GR!
She's probably just signed off from social media. I know she had her share of problems with it over the years.

When I think of the word "typo" I remember a music professor I had in college who would refer to her mistakes in writing music on the board as "note-o's"

"Note-o!" I love that! Did that cover hitting the wrong note, as well? :-)

It could, I guess =)

Happy 11th birthday Idol!

I am a SO not awake yet. I stayed up late last night to watch the movie Florence Foster Jenkins. I laughed. I cried. I got my money's worth. And the guy from The Big Bang Theory was fantastic. If I hadn't deleted it, I would watch it again.

Still not awake.

Isn't that movie just adorable? It's such a lovely little piece of history and the movie is put together so well - it's fluff but happy fluff.

Also not awake - went to a concert last night which was awesome but much harder to do on a 'school night' than it used to be.

Yeah! There should be no age limits on burning the candle at both ends. In fact, I think as we get older we should be able to do more for longer. Seriously! ;-)

~*Happy 11th birthday Idol*~

I really try to not be bothered by typos because we're all human and all make them. And yet I can't help it, at times it almost feels like claws on a blackboard.

Yay, happy birthday, Idol!

I'm a copy editor in my rl job, so it's hard for me to not notice them since people pay me to notice them. That said, I don't usually point them out — it happens, we all do it — unless it's someplace it shouldn't be. Like in actual published books. Or the articles people send me for work when you should really use spellcheck if you want it published. Or the time a product manufacturer emailed me with the name of their product spelled wrong!

Those things, I judge. Not even sorry.

People are human (mostly) and make mistakes. I mention them if someone has asked me for feedback (unless we're talking concept level and it's a first draft). I mention them when someone is being pious or condescending and I am feeling bitchy. I mention them if they're in a professional context and I think fixing them is possible (and I can mention it privately).

Beyond that I might rant about them in the way I sometimes rant about laundry commercials where the garment being removed from the dryer has obviously been ironed.

Or, you know, to the cats when JD Robb (or possibly the audiobook narrator) once again uses the word perimeter for parameter. The cats don't really care that much though.

Oh, and in those memes. I hate a typo in a self-righteous colored box.

Happy Birthday, Idol! *confetti*

I don't mention typos....but grammatical errors and misplaced/incorrect word usage I will mention to friends if the reading material is meant for larger audiences.

Some of the covfefe memes are HILARIOUS. Internetz, you funny.
