Green Room - Week 16- Day 1

Last night featured eliminations: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1007046.html

a new topic http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/1007141.html

I didn't mention it last night, but if you send me an email I will tell you how you finished in the Contestant Only voting: low, medium or high (in terms of votes).

Some people finished around where they did in the regular poll - but there were enough that were *completely* different that I think it will be interesting to take a look.

How was your weekend?

First?!?

My weekend = screwed up work schedule from hell which continues all this week. Nobody's schedule is written in stone, not even our manager's. Everybody's upset. I'm really beginning to think they're doing this to disgust people enough to quit, tbh.

I also have had no heat save hot water since last Thursday. A valve of some sort lost pressure or whatever so one zone of the house overheated and put too much stress on the other. All I can say is thank god it isn't the dead of winter :brrr:

Sadly, I have to admit that when I managed a Tower Records...this was a typical "ploy" used to nudge out folks we wanted gone. :(

Former Employer did the same thing for a time. When nobody budged they started laying off people :(

Smaller companies want to avoid that, and firing. It costs too much. Having folks wander away or quit in a foot-stomping moment is always preferable...And the schedule is easy-peasy. You get all wide-eyed and blinky and say...well, you wanted MORE hours, or, you wanted LESS hours, or, there may be an opening for a night manager. It's all part of the script.

I work for a newspaper and I swear the Powers That Be are trying to sabotage things so eventually we go bankrupt.

"You guys just sold more ads, and therefore mad far more money, than we were projecting! Good job! Way to go! Have some cake and cookies! Also, you're all fired."

"You've never written a story before? That's okay, you can be the lead writer!"

*sigh*

Good luck with everything. That sounds like a massive headache.

Oh, the joys of home ownership! Over the years, we have accumulated too many business cards from the various "guys" (electrical guy, plumber guy, HVAC, $etc.$) we have had to call. Good luck!

I had a very busy weekend, as part of what I do is theatre reviews and there were four (4!) different shows opening.

But more important, for all who read my "Many Manys" story, I must announce that Mr. Jeckyll P. Kitty, having been on this plane for 20 years, went to be with Ghostcat today. I'm sure they'll get along fine.

:( I'm sorry to hear that. Not a bad ending for Mr. Jeckyll, but always hard on the humans left behind.

I'm back to working on Saturdays again (the 6-day week), so the weekend was kind of a blur. I read Idol stories, I did work things, I biked and did yardwork.

I braved Walmart for the sake of loofah sponges which Target does not sell, and had the bright idea to buy about 3 of them at once... and went to put them away after I got home, and discovered I'd had that idea before and had unnecessarily gone to Walmart!!!! Oy.

So, are we now at Top 50 and can't use our garden-variety buys now, or are we almost there and have one last opportunity?

I'm asking for a friend...

I learned over the weekend that my sister is moving from Los Angeles to North Carolina and will be DRIVING across the country.

I'm invited.

We're thinking of doing at least part of Route 66 just to say that we did it. Any other suggestions?

Less a suggestion than a "maybe don't" - I moved from Tucson, AZ to Evansville, IN by car - solo. Avoid driving through New Mexico from the SW to the NE. Albuquerque is lovely (I do recommend that city) but there's not a whole lot else and it was never-ending. Though if you stick to 66 you'll be more northern than Tucson anyway.

Yeah, I've driven through Wyoming. Whole lotta nothin' there, too. We've seen Vegas and the Grand Canyon, so we're not going to bother with those again. We might swing up north and go through Salt Lake and/or Denver and just go east from there.

We've got til June to decide. Right now, I'm playing with different maps and trying to find weird and quirky roadside attractions.

ETA: I should add though that the scenery in Wyoming was absolutely beautiful. Just...there was nothing. For miles and miles and miles.

A little help here. Please?
Right now, my muse is absolutely nowhere to be found.

(Translation: I can't think of a single good story idea based on the word "Thunderclap".)

Yes, I know what the word means. But so far, whenever I think of such a loud, sudden noise... I just can't think of a single good story idea.

OK, that last statement isn't completely true. In actuality I have thought of a couple of story ideas which involve the sound of a thunderclap. The problem is that these stories are ones that I've already written and posted earlier in LJI. Right now, only these old stories spring to mind... and I just can't think of anything new.

So: Anyone have any interesting interpretations for the prompt that they know they aren't going to use? If so... would you please share your idea with the less fortunate? Thanks in advance...

Re: A little help here. Please?
I have to say, I'm shocked that you haven't considered the alternate definition of the word...

used in similes to refer to something startling or unexpected.
"the invasion of the Falklands came as a thunderclap"

Really, that's right up your alley.

I have tried thinking along those lines... but so far, what few ideas I've come up with are stories I've already written.

My muse is nowhere to be found...
