Green Room - Week 8 - Day 1

I think I mentioned how I band I really like broke up, and the lead singer came out with some vague statements about his past behavior and how damaging it had been. Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. But it happened.

People in that thread, of course, starting spelling out some of what he was talking about (more of them had theories than actual "this happened...") but all of them had the same reaction: "I'm done with this band/their music!"

Which, I was pretty pissed off at the singer and what he had done (or the vague idea of what he had done at any rate) but find myself in that position where I still have those songs in my head. Despite people saying that they can just turn off their love of that music, I wonder if maybe it's more like a relationship that ended poorly. You catch yourself thinking of them all the time, even though you know that it's really bad for you, and the only thing that really gets you through it is the passage of time.

***

Speaking of the Passage of Time - we had eliminations last night: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/977621.html

a new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/977744.html

and a Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/978031.html

I've also contacted 84 Lumber to build a wall around Idol so no one can escape. They seem to have done a good job, I haven't watched the *whole* commercial yet, but I imagine it ends up people in tears, unable to leave.

What was YOUR favorite Super Bowl commercial? (other than the one announcing the new season of Stranger Things)

I'm checking out of my hotel sometime today. When rests on the final cleanup over at the house. I need to do the walkthrough before I pay the rest of the $. I told them I need to be out of here by a certain time or they'll charge me an extra day. They said not to worry.

:trying not to worry:

I get my Boyz back next weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super Bowl commercial? I was working. Right now they suspended all regular programming on TV for the MVP award ceremony. But yeah, the minute I heard it went into overtime I was like, huh?!?!?!?

My fave part was Lady GaGa's show. I worked on my continuing ed class assignment instead of watching the game.

halfshellvenus and I were discussing Gary's wedding, and wondering what the Idol community could give him as a wedding gift, something unusual, precious, but still affordable. We came up with the gift of time -- time off from Idol, time off from having to come up with a topic, writing Green Rooms, wrangling writers, reading entries, the poll, everything. Call it a bye from Idol to Gary. The fact that it is also self-serving should be politely ignored. The idea would be for Gary to devote this extra time to his wedding and his family. I do not know how to accomplish this, but I wanted to put it out there.

I like this idea and stand behind it! Then he could really work "the honeymoon is over" bit when he returns!

Go, Gary, take a week off for your nuptials, for love!

That's really sweet of you guys to be thinking about me. The problem with taking time off is that I've seen what happens - and I really don't want to celebrate with a massive bye-out! :O

I *have* though given you guys extra time to write, and the schedule for next week will be equally generous to vote. So that I put the least amount of work on myself as possible for that time frame. There probably *will* be an "extended Green Room" rather than a daily one. I'm only taking the day after the wedding off from work. We were talking about a family vacation in a few months, so we will probably just combine the two. It will give me time to save up some money for it!

When I married (back in the dark ages), the wedding was Saturday, and we didn't leave on our honeymoon until the following week Monday (because of a holiday in the month that I took advantage of instead of a vaca day). It was kinda weird going right back to work Monday morning like nothing happened... but it worked out fine.

I like the idea of a Gary-bye. Perhaps you have some "admins"/longtime Idolers (or even new ones) that would step up and post for you.

I have an assistant. I was probably going to get her to post the Green Room anyway. But that's a good reminder that I should probably *ask* her. :)

The same would've happened with us had we had an actual honeymoon. I couldn't get time off work (long story which still ticks me off) so we stayed overnight at a local motel.

We always *meant* to have an actual honeymoon but never got around to it. We also had my husband's then dogs to consider too.

I watched the puppy bowl! I didn't even know it existed until Friday, but that's what I watched. There might have been commercials, I don't remember. There was so much adorableness between the puppies and the kittens half-time show, all I remember is cute.

I watched the last 30 minutes of the Puppy Bowl. The ending with the owners picking up their adopted puppies always makes me cry because I can't be a cynical bitch around a field full of puppies playing with squeeze toys.

I don't know if it was the pre-game ad or one that ran in the Super Bow (I didn't actually watch it, just saw someone post it on Facebook), but the Coke ad with everyone singing America the Beautiful in different languages was my favorite.

I have to question a commercial that is promoting anything that's over six months away.

Much like the game, none of the commercials made me happy. The talking yearbook was creepy af and the Melissa McCarthy one was just extreme slapstick without a payoff, because for slapstick to actually work, you need a reaction and there never was a proper one. This, coming from someone who actually studied slapstick btw.

Really the Bieber spot was more slapstick than the McCarthy. If Selena Gomez had somehow turned up in that one, it would have been the best Big Game Ad, EVER.

But nothing about this year's game was the best ever.

Pity.

But nothing about this year's game was the best ever.

Not even going into OT, first time ever?

I'm smack in the middle of Pats country. As a non football fan I'm already sick of all-Brady-news-all-the-time no matter which network channel I turn on.

The OT was a tease, because we knew New England didn't come all the way back to lose. Prolonging the inevitable only added to the annoyance of it all.
