Green Room - Week 2 - Weekend Edition

It's Saturday when this is going up - which means tomorrow (Sunday) at 3 pm EST is the deadline for your Week 2 Idol entries. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/954961.html

Well, regardless of when this was going up, that would still be the deadline. But I wanted to give some context!

What's going on with your weekend?

So far mine has been running errands. I'm sure the rest will be "Idol related"/running more errands. If I sit for too long, I'm sure my weekend will be decided for me. ;)

I have such a headache rn and about 1000 words of my LJI entry and I'm not entirely pleased with them. I struggled a lot with this topic, tbh. And if I don't finish it before 10:30 tomorrow morning, it'll be interesting to see if I even get an entry in...

LJ's blocked at work. Well, partially. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, so whether I'd be able to finish/post/link back a post on one of the busiest weekends of the month at a bank, well...

We'll see what happens. xD

That's a bitch! It would make me nuts to not be able to get online when I wanted.

My husband has no internet at work, save for his phone. They want people to be more productive - I don't know why they think that helps (I say, as I type from MY desk at work, ha.)

I mean, in theory I could proooobably post the link to my DW (because dreamwidth isn't blocked? Go figure?) and have my best friend link back my entry for me? But that's an extra step I would rather not have to take.

We HAVE internet, just some sites are blocked (facebook, twitter, tumblr... oh god if I could get on tumblr? That'd be it. I'd never be productive). And it makes sense, because well -- it'd be all too easy to share sensitive information through various websites. Working at a bank is boring work, though, sometimes. Even when you work at the busiest branch in four regions...

Thankfully, Ao3 is not blocked. ;) So I can at least read some good shit while at work. Same with amazon reader. :) I just can't do anything LJ-related...

In theory we're not allowed to use our phones at all while we're working. That doesn't stop anybody from checking Facebook, however, in the nether corners when things get slow.

I'm the only one who leaves her phone off until her lunch period. And I never post anything from there just because I'm paranoid whatever I post will stay on What's Now Current Employer's server...

The cell phone policy at my current employer is as follows:

You can have it on you, but it needs to be on silent. You can't use it when you're working at all, unless you have special permissions (our store manager). You can use it (again, while on silent/not using any camera apps) in the break room while you are on lunch, and that's it.

This was changed recently -- it used to be that you weren't allowed to have the phone at all on you while you were in the branch.

Most of us (me included, sometimes) just sneak into the closet/the storage room/the vault to check our phones. These are places that don't have cameras. And we DO have a camera in the vault, it's just in the small tiny section where we actually move money around, not in the larger portion with the safe deposit boxes. I don't carry my phone on me at all, though. It stays in my purse 'til lunch (and the purse stays in the closet all day).

I absolutely wouldn't want to see a teller with their phone on them, tbh. But it does disrupt our day sometimes when tellers sneak off to answer texts -- if they aren't careful when they do it. (sigh)

I scrapped my first entry because I thought it would be too similar to what other people might write, and I didn't like it much. It took me a little while to come up with a different idea, though I still managed to knock it out on the same day. Heh.
Dec. 3rd, 2016 09:28 pm (UTC)
I have two other false starts for this piece, but it was for a different idea in a similar vein. I'm hooooping that I can pull the rest of this together soon, but I'm not braining very well at the moment..
Dec. 3rd, 2016 09:51 pm (UTC)

I'm in a school. It's always blocked. 😝

Dec. 3rd, 2016 09:58 pm (UTC)
When I was in school, it wasn't. xD Which is actually one of the reasons why LJ survived through high school for me -- it was always available no matter the internet restrictions. Until now. xD

It's cold and grey and rainy and perfect snuggle weather. I heated some frozen leftover turkey in some bbq sauce and had it with baked new potatoes. Tasted better than it sounds.
Dec. 3rd, 2016 07:03 pm (UTC)
Sounds good to me. I'm drinking a protein shake at my desk for lunch, blargh!
Dec. 4th, 2016 10:57 pm (UTC)
I had chicken with mashed potatoes. It sounds good but I feel guilty because I didn't eat vegetables besides the potatoes which don't really count.

I am working. This is the second weekend in a row. Usually I only have a weekend shift once a month but the schedule got a bit wonky due to some hirings/firings and it couldn't be avoided.

I started my day with an Elf on the Shelf Welcome Party - we did a storytime and crafts to welcome the library elf back. Now we will move him around the branch each morning. he gets up to some serious shenanigans!

Tonight I am taking the kiddos to see Santa and then afterward we are going to Bucca di Beppo where it is our Christmas tradition to sit in the kitchen to eat- where you get to watch the chefs - and devour too much Italian food and drink some Prosecco - me, not the kids, although I'll probably give them a sip as well.

Tomorrow is our American Girl Doll Holiday Tea. 55 little girls, darling dresses, cute dolls. We will drink fruity teas with our pinkies in the air, make doll tutus and beaded name bracelets for both girl and doll and decorate cupcakes. I am SO not a girly-girl but this is an adorable chance to pretend I am!

I have a great idea for my entry...I just have no idea when I'll find the time to write it!
Dec. 3rd, 2016 07:12 pm (UTC)
Home. Bed. Rest. Sleep.

Otherwise, pretty good. Posted my entry yesterday, made two tiny adjustments this morning, and am getting a bit of a head start on the reading. Hope we don't have so many byes this week.
Dec. 3rd, 2016 08:03 pm (UTC)
I recently discovered the magic of wearing an eye mask when I sleep so I had a glorious sleep and got out of bed around 9. Some french press coffee, some breakfast, and some writing for Idol. I scrapped the original idea I was thinking about all week because new inspiration struck. Also I ordered skin care stuff (Any skin care addicts here?).

Later I'll be meeting up with friends and tomorrow Boyfriend & I are doing brunch and a museum. It's definitely starting to feel like late fall here in Philly and I am already counting the days to summer.
Dec. 4th, 2016 10:59 pm (UTC)
Eye mask, noise-cancelling ear plugs, and warm socks is the magic trifecta.
Dec. 5th, 2016 12:56 am (UTC)
I have to set an alarm to wake up, so no ear plugs for me. :(
Dec. 3rd, 2016 09:02 pm (UTC)
I got my entry in super early because I knew I would busy all weekend at the Supernatural convention in San Francisco. Just got a few photo ops done, with a couple more today, and the main event with Jensen Ackles tomorrow. I'm too shy to say anything but thank you to them, but I'm glad I'll have the pictures, because chances are I won't pay for something like this again. I'm not part of the fandom community, I just love the show and hearing from the cast about it.
Dec. 3rd, 2016 09:11 pm (UTC)
I've been traveling the world! I mean the World Showcase in Epcot.

I was happy for the wait for Soarin'. I started a rough draft of my entry while in line!
Dec. 3rd, 2016 11:41 pm (UTC)

We didn't go today, but we do have passes!

If you had waited for Frozen, you could have been in line until the Weel 3 deadline! ;)
Dec. 3rd, 2016 11:46 pm (UTC)
Ack! I love Olaf and all, but without any kids I don't have an excuse to stand in line for that long to meet him.

After two long days in the park, tomorrow we take a day off to watch the Steelers at the ESPN restaurant. It should be fun--as long as the Steelers win.

Are you guys also currently vacationing in Disney? Or do you live close to here?
Dec. 3rd, 2016 11:57 pm (UTC)
I love watching games at the ESPN club. I've been known to go off to just sit outside and watch when the Steelers are playing.

We live about an hour away. (near Tampa)

So much going on with my weekend, ugh. I have two major final school projects due next week for two of my most difficult uni classes. My dog has an eye infection so today was his second of MANY vet visits, and tonight is a yearly holiday party with a bunch of my karaoke friends.

It should be interesting to see what I actually get done in the next 36 hours, really.

I hope everyone else's weekends are lovely, and a lot less stressful than mine! ^-^
Dec. 3rd, 2016 09:50 pm (UTC)

Zumba in the AM and my neighbor gave me two free tickets to Redsfest! Yay. I took my daughter, and we saw a few famous baseball ⚾️ players. Later we had spiced cider ( spiked too!) on the square! Fun!

Dec. 4th, 2016 02:17 am (UTC)
ARGH! I was almost done with my entry and my computer randomly restarted itself and LJ didn't save my draft. I have to start all over!
Dec. 4th, 2016 12:26 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I forgot to save my Word document every once in a while this week, and lost about 20 minutes of work when my computer froze (it almost never does!) and the Word autosave did not do its job properly either for some reason (it should have saved the document every 10 minutes at least).

Just saw Arrival at the movie theatre--gorgeous film and so affirming about the power of language!
Dec. 4th, 2016 05:40 am (UTC)

We got a new car and I forgot about this week. Ugh. I'll get my entry done tonight.

Dec. 4th, 2016 07:59 am (UTC)
I'm working as usual :p My husband heads back to his new out-of-state place where his job is...yay, no more paying hotel fees for him! He's getting the utilities turned on tomorrow.

My Boyz got into a fight yesterday. They're not adapting to Daddy coming and going very well, I think. Anyway, Oakley had a chunk taken out his face and forehead and he's been acting weird since, like he has to keep orienting himself. We're wondering if he suffered the canine equivalent of a concussion...?

SO's keeping an eye on him while I'm at work. If he's still acting that way when I return home, we have no choice but to take him to the emergency vet :(
Dec. 4th, 2016 12:24 pm (UTC)
I am sorry about Oakley. It is always scary when this happens to someone who cannot tell you what is wrong. Let's hope he gets better quickly.

Late comers club, ho!
I had only stolen moments to think about the entry during the week, and I did not feel too happy with the topic too.

So after over half a dozen false starts yesterday I was beginning to lean toward taking a bye (never a good thing so early in the season, not really because I might need it later but more because doing so plays tricks with my concentration and determination). And then I just went and wrote the entry start to finish barring minor correction in under half an hour this morning.

So I am now free to run errands and prepare little somethings for members of my philosophy club. See, this year, it was decided that the New Year tree at the philosophy school I have just joined will be decorated with wishes, however that may be, and I had this idea to make little origami boxes for wishes for all the members of my group. Something small and easy, and and at the same time handmade and unusual because I doubt others had the same crazy idea.

Well, I say easy. There is this one crucial fold in the box that is not obvious at first, haha.
Dec. 4th, 2016 06:18 pm (UTC)
Reading entries! Top of my to-do list!

Menfolk are installing a gutter today, over the front porch. I mean....I didn't mind walking through a sheet of water in the winter...but I suppose this will be drier? Hope the snow doesn't tear it off.
Dec. 4th, 2016 07:01 pm (UTC)
...So far my weekend is a lot of sleeping, possibly questionable activity, and waking up this afternoon to check when the Idol deadline is and realizing it's in an hour. In other words, business as usual.
Dec. 4th, 2016 07:05 pm (UTC)
It's looking like another big "bye" week. Weeks 3-5 have every sign of being *brutal* in terms of losses. :(
Dec. 4th, 2016 10:04 pm (UTC)
Dec. 4th, 2016 09:00 pm (UTC)
I just looked at the deadline and realized we missed it! I guess KFP and I both use our bye.
Dec. 4th, 2016 11:03 pm (UTC)
Aww. What was it about this deadline that caught so many people (myself included) off guard? Maybe because it all started so slowly it's unexpected that the current "week" is shorter.
Dec. 5th, 2016 12:13 am (UTC)
I'm curious as well.
Dec. 4th, 2016 11:05 pm (UTC)
My weekend?

I'm working all weekend. When I'm not at work, I'm at home trying to sleep so I can go to work again. The good news is that I made a post, the bad news is that it may be too late for the poll...

Unless the Great and Powerful Gary is also Merciful.

(did I do the butt kissing correctly?)
Dec. 4th, 2016 11:24 pm (UTC)
Working allll weekend. But I got to decorate a pink tree and make a unicorn topper for it. His name is Mr. Horny and he loves to party.
Dec. 4th, 2016 11:53 pm (UTC)
The poll is finally up.

Man, that's a *lot* of byes. I said it before the poll, and I'll say it again now, this is going to be brutal in the next couple of weeks.
