Green Room - Week 2 - Day 2

Just for the record, LJ Idol is standing with Kellogg's and will also no longer be advertising on Breitbart.

Granted, we were never advertising there in the first place, and the principled stance has a lot more to hoping that they will learn of our allegiance and send free cereal... but that doesn't make it any less real or principled!!!

***

Speaking of real, it's just another example of the continued War on Santa: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/12/01/oregon-schools-santa-stance-causes-controversy/94721496/

(Note: the Winter Holiday celebrated in 'Merica is the Birth of the greatest person ever born, the one who brings light and happiness into the world, and endorses Coke products - Santa! This particular endorsement may actually have to do with wanting to receive more presents.)

***

There's no ulterior motive though for telling you that this is the link to your topic thread: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/954961.html nor that this is your Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/955188.html

***

What are YOUR ulterior motives now that we've officially crossed over into December?

Too many years in band tended to be what ruined music for me.

First?

Sounds like that Oregon school wants a Krampus-themed doorway.

I just need to get through the next week. Doing to many different things at once all day long is not the way I like to live, but alas, it will be all the same for the next 10 days.

Okay, not all of them at once, and not all 10 in a single day, but I do have to switch constantly.

There is snow in my yard! I demand to know how it got there! Who put snow in my yard?

Snow blower going outside.

I don't celebrate Christmas. The only thing I miss is the carols.

My motive is to just get through about 2-ish LAMF weeks before Break.

My Christmas plans include: not starving, sending soap to people instead of monetary gifts due to extreme poorness, watching many movies, and decorating my pink tree with the unicorn topper (his name is Horny).

My personal reboot has started with an early morning writing session!!! Thank you, Idol, for your motivating ways!

I own about a baker's dozen dvds of various "A Christmas Carol" interpretations and I watch them in the merry month of December. So, I'm planning that schedule out now!

The birth of the sun/son is definitely something to celebrate!

The hubs and I don't really celebrate either. I do, however bring Christmas to the brats before the 25th so they can celebrate where they wish that day, Father's, Grandmother's, girlfriend's and so on.

I provide tree, dinner and presents! They provide me with hugs and love and our own special brand of silliness!!

Speaking of brats- if anyone is interested, I posted Spoken Word/video from my son. He's my Aspy and it still blows me away that this child wasn't verbal until well into fifth year. Now look at him!. I was hoping to get him to join the community, so if I could give him outside encouragement, maybe by second chance Idol he will. Here's the linky dink for his piece.

I've been working most of the day with beta readers/editors to get a piece done as a "test run" for a potential freelance writing job.

I'd highly recommend folks getting beta readers for their own work. It can really take raw meat and make it into something special.

So glad to hear that you're writing!

Apparently Raymond Carver's astonishing astonishing astonishing work was 100% dependent upon the skills of his editor.

I'm not anti-Christmas, but I've been anti-Santa for a very long time.

It's an elaborate lie. I get that I was a weird kid, but when I was mocked by classmates for still believing and asked my mom about it, and she fessed up, I felt betrayed. I thought, "Here I had all this physical evidence that he existed (yes, I really thought like that when I was a kid) so what does that say about God? How can I know if He exists?"

Yeah, so. Santa is a big lie parents tell their kids and it really only benefits the toy industry.

You sound like the kid who stands as evidence when people say that Shelf Elves teach kids to be comfortable being surveilled or that Santa teaches them to inform on each other. I'm sorry your Xmas stuff was so traumatic though!

My neighbor across the street puts everyone else to shame with his light show. Not only does he have lights all over his Japanese maple out front, but he also has several light-up lawn ornaments (the snowman is adorable!), lights going up the front stairs, lights around the door, lights in the windows, the list goes on. It's very tasteful. He's got three little kids, so there you go :)

The most I do nowadays is hang a wreath on the front door. We haven't had a tree in eons. The last time we hung stockings was when our housemates were here, and that was only at E (the wife's) insistence.

We have a good light show at our place, which I should probably get underway this weekend. It's a lengthy process.

Part One is usually realizing I have to clean the leaves out of the flower beds and possibly prune in several parts of the yard before I put all of that cord and wiring down. Also? More leaves will fall after the decorations are up. They aren't all down until right around Christmas.

Getting past that first hurdle, on a non-rainy weekend, is usually the first part. Deadlines and too-few-outlets are a whole 'nother thing.

Ulterior motives? Sending holiday cards and purchasing thoughtful presents for my friends and family. Also continuing the political agitating, because goddammit, I will not sit by and let everyone normalize this.

That's boring, though, so I'll have to come up with something else.

I'm not religious but I celebrate secular Christmas HARD 24/7. I even wear dumb holiday scarves with LED lights. I have a whole separate jewelry wardrobe that consists of primarily jingle bells and glitter. We have a series of get-togethers and events that stretch the whole month of December and I usually start shopping and making gifts in October. We make at least 10 kinds of cookies and candies throughout the month and add a couple more strands of lights to the pile each year.

But I refuse to tell people "Merry Christmas". It's "Do you have any special Winter holidays you celebrate?" and "That sounds awesome! I hope you have a great time!" War on Christmas/Christians people can suck a tree. Inclusivity or bust. Also, I never have, and never will participate in Black Friday. There's celebrating a holiday and then there's being conned into thinking nobody can be happy without a new XStationWii60.

This year, my 7 year old asked Santa and Gilly (Gillian Claus, the engineer who designs the machines that build the toys at the North Pole-- because women have names other than "Mrs. His Name") for a metal detector. I foresee a lot of hiking and outdoorsing in my future hunting for mucked up coins and lost keychains.
