Green Room - Week 1 - Day 6

Good morning.

For me, the last day of sign-ups/the last day of the deadline is like Christmas morning where I'm about ready to see what is under the tree! It takes a really long time to fully unwrap it, and see the winner inside. But the experience itself - and the anticipation of it, is always really exciting!

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/951685.html is where to post the links to your entries

and http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/945807.html is where to sign-up.

Currently, we are waiting for a little less than 100 people to post their Week 1 entry. I'm predicting that there will be some folks who forgot to follow the community and thus already missed the first topic. (one of the dangers of a "slow start" is that people could wander off) Knowing Idolers though, there is probably going to be that traditional rush to post in the last couple of hours!

Today is a "short day" at work. Although I'm not entirely sure *how* short it is going to be. (Rumors being notoriously inconsistent)

For those of you in the US, what sort of Thanksgiving plans do you have? For those who aren't - what sort of turkeys have you been dealing with this week?

It's a short day for me as well. I'm ready to be out of the office for a few days.
Friends are coming for dinner tomorrow. We have a feast planned and after that we'll beach ourselves and watch movies!
Hope all have a good holiday if you celebrate!

Huzzah! Access gained to my account, so I can once again post as Spydie instead of Amy.

I'm still up in Maine and will be for a couple more weeks. My dad took a bad fall earlier this month and can no longer do all the things he used to do around the house. I'm here to offer moral support to myrna_bird (who doesn't have time to write/socialize this season, though she's been asked several times to come back) and help look after my dad.

T-day plans include missing my husband (who is back at home), watching the Macy's parade with my family here, and a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

She's back!

Dang, now I wish I still had my old icon.

Hope your dad feels better.

This week has been awful.

Tomorrow we are having dinner with friends that are part of our chosen family.

I am just so exhausted. At this point, I just feel like all the fight has gone out of me and I want to curl up in a ball.

I am with you on that desire to curl up in a ball!! I'm grateful that it is warm under the covers. And, I have a sweet little dog in there with me. :)

About to get the housemate and the kiddos working on cleaning up for tomorrow's descent of family and friends/feast. I'm taking a page from clauderainsrm and giving them their marching orders while I sit back to enjoy the show, being sure to toss out random twists and turns when I get bored and they seem too complacent in their work.

We're doing thanksgiving with my husband's family/chosen family in his hometown. On the plus side my jobs for the weekend are mostly help with dishes whenever they get too piled up and watch football with friend's dad so he isn't off on his own. On the downside it's a lot of days with a lot of people, I am already planning a few solo sneak outs.

And I just finished a first draft Gary. Getting back into this rhythm takes some time.

I'm off for three days! Today I need to finish my entry, get the turkey in a brine bag for tomorrow and then make the four-hour round trip to pick my kids up from their dad's house where they've been languishing since Saturday.

Tonight we'll eat dinner from the Whole Foods' food court - always fun because everyone gets exactly what they want! - and we have tickets to all go see Fantastic Beasts at this cool theater nearby with recliner seating. This is one of my fave family dates we go on.

Tomorrow it will be just the four of us for Thanksgiving, which is rare. We usually go to my mom's in Fla but this year she is having surgeries and begged off.

I suggested taking the fam to this resort in the mountains near here that I discovered. They have a big buffet with turkey, ham AND fried chicken and all the great sides, plus sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie AND a chocolate fountain for dessert. We could just enjoy, walk around the lake afterwards, sit by the huge fireplace later...I was totally shot down. The kiddos want me to make a traditional dinner.

Soo...tomorrow I'll be cooking a turkey for the third time in my life. Yeep! I told the kiddos they can help me in the kitchen too - if they want tradition they can help make it - mama doesn't need to spend the day alone in the kitchen while everyone else chills! At 10 and 12 they are big enough to peel potatoes and mash yams.

I bitch about the day of cooking and oh lord the dishes, but it will be lovely, just us, no timetable. And afterward, we'll play games in the living room with a fire in OUR fireplace, drink some ginger beer, be thankful for all we do have.

I've done a turkey exactly ONCE in my entire life. I made it for some friends of my mother's years ago who were in town and had come to see her. I was petrified I'd do something wrong, LOL, and poison everybody or something. Turned out I could've cooked it a smidge more but otherwise it was entirely edible and nobody got sick :)

If I do anything turkey, it's a breast or half a breast. There's only two of us, you know?

It's not even Thanksgiving yet, and I've already had my turkey fiasco for the year.

I'd tell the tale, but I'm pretty sure it's winding its way into my entry.

A hundred is a good number. You know I always wait til the last minute to post. For me, it's all about the pressure of the deadline.

:arises from the dead:

Um, hi GR, I think I'm here? I can't sleep when the sun leaks light around room darkening shades, so I said forget it, I'll take a nap later :p

We always go to my extended family's for Thanksgiving. As usual, we're to bring two appetizers and a dessert. I'm not getting fancy like I normally do because of Overnight Pie Hell, so I'll be making my infamous spinach dip, my new-to-me spicy sausage-and-cheese bites, and cranberry pear crumble. I was going to do brownies too but someone else was assigned the task.

In the morning we'll go down to my SIL's to visit her and my MIL. There was a question as to what they would be doing for Thanksgiving since my BIL is out of town and their kids are scattered. My husband's other siblings are visit their in-laws so nobody's around except this SIL. Very weird.

Spicy sausage and cheese bites sound amazing. Getting a little spicy kick into Thanksgiving is always a good thing.

Just posted my entry couple hours before the deadline!

We're going to my aunt's tomorrow for Thanksgiving where we all hope that my one cousin and her husband who are Trump supporters will not say anything to piss anyone off (there are plans in place for a walk-out). Friday, we're going up to Allentown, PA to visit my in-laws for the weekend and my sister-in-law is doing her annual cookie bake on Saturday.

I just made all the pies and exhausted myself doing more than I should of. So everything else is just going to have to wait till tomorrow, but at least all the different pies are done and that's honestly the most important part of the meal anyways lol.
