I saw this on facebook earlier tonight and it just got me scratching my head. No, it wasn't that grouchy cat. But it was definitely something that he would react to: http://www.xojane.com/issues/mad-back-c osplayer-chaka-cumberbatch
Maybe I just don't "get" cosplay, but I thought the whole point was to dress up as someone other than yourself, and that it didn't matter what gender/racial/whatever lines you crossed in the process as long as your costume was good enough and/or you showed a clear love for what you were doing.
Every single one of you damn foreigners is into this cosplay thing, pretending that you are *real people who matter*! It's a good thing that I know the truth!

Speaking of "the truth*, there was a moment of it earlier tonight: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/61 7342.html
which was followed by the new Second Chance topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/61 7661.html
and of course the new topic for the main competition: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/61 7893.html

I posted this in the last GR but it was probably way after anyone was paying attention any more, so I wanted to share it again.
My friend who I wrote about in my entry [for the last topic] read it last night (I'd been nervous about showing him). Then he decided he wanted to turn it into a short film with me (he's an actor). I'll have to fix up some of the dialogue but we both think it could be a good way to start a serious conversation on baby dumping in Malaysia. Suddenly I don't feel so helpless on this issue and I might even be able to make an impact.

I'm also in the process of reviewing a book for a current Idol contestant for my blog too.
So while I may be around a bit less, I'm still here in spirit. Miss you guys!
She has some amazing costumes, and it's a shame that people prefer to fuss about her skin color.
As for cosplay, well, I could chat for hours about that (though having an extremely accurate costume, staying in character, and having a great time are pretty much key elements, absolutely), but I have some other opinions that I'll save for the morning or some other time when I'm not in this current head-space. Luckily, however, this is good head-space for creativity! I better not waste away the hours...
I don't even want to BE a part of the Cosplay Community--though I have friends who are and who do amazing things with amazing costumes and props--I just want to dress up silly sometimes with my friends at cons. So I don't go for accuracy, generally. I go for silliness. My roommate and I are spearheading a whole group of hipster superheroes at D*C this year, just so we can be silly. (And so I have an excuse to make a Winter Soldier hoodie.) And don't even get me started on the girl!Ianto Jones costumes we all pulled together which are totally canon in this one tie in novel.)
One day I'm going to be better at telling all the disapproving people to fuck themselves. In writing and in silly dress up. Maybe. In the meantime though, I make a pretty killer Pam.

I know I've been scarce the last few days. I'm once again thinking of selling my house, and if I'm going to, I'd like to do it ASAP. I'm on vacation in a couple of weeks, so it's just a matter of forcing my feet to walk the three blocks up to the town square and actually knock on the realtors' doors...For all my previous talk about it, I just can't seem to take that step to get an appraisal, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.
Gotta get ready for work!
:blows kisses:
That legit boggles my mind because I grew up in a sheltered-ass, lily-white suburb and never even saw a black person until I was 6 years old (they used to bus kids from "inner city" areas into suburban schools in the 80's). I don't think I'm unusually colorblind or anything and it would just never occur to me to look at those pictures and see any significance in the fact she was black.
Overweight cosplayers in skimpy costumes? That I'd notice. But that's more about my own issues with my body than anything else, and I'm guessing that's how it works with bigotry based on things like race, too.
If you can help, help. If you can't help, spread the word.
I should show the article to
Still, I'm more comfortable seeing a black woman as Captain America than a white guy as Morpheus -- maybe I need to open my mind more.
As for the topic...

Anyone ever write a first draft and then go through a period where you don't even want to look at it, read it? that's how I feel right now.
Hope your little one is feeling better.
If you want/need crock pot recipes, feel free to ask me. I've been using one since I was big enough to climb on the counter and plug one in, so I have lots of recipes. And, no, I have no idea how I survived my childhood...other than it was the 70s and we were obviously encased in some magic bubble that saved us from cars without seatbelts and Jarts.
Okay not an issue ive a story bouncing about that will work.
I will have to get typing after getting children off too school
