Results - Second Chance - Week 2

It's that time again. Fortunately, with the Second Chance results, I am able to give some people good news as well as delivering the bad.

It makes for a more "mixed reaction post" but, eventually everyone will be leaving SCI one way or another - and from there, everyone but one person will be exiting from this season of Idol.

So, it's something that everyone will have to face at some point. Given that this week features exclusively veterans, in both the coming and the going, I know that's something that they know all too well.

Saying it doesn't make it any better, but maybe there is some solace in that notion. Maybe.

Leaving us from SCI this week are:

Thank you to all of you, not only for trying again with Second Chance, but for showing up in the first place. I hope we will continue to see you in the Home Game!

As for the five who have the opportunity to move forward into the main competition, they are:

talonkarrde88 who has, like clockwork, already declined moving forward this round.

Anyone else who doesn't wish to move has until one hour before the next main competition topic deadline (Week 17) to let me know. Thanks, and congratulations!

Ah, pity the forfeited spot doesn't go to the next person in the list!

I concur with this!

Grats to the four moving on, who were all, I think, quite deserving!

Lots of awesome entries. I completely agree with who moved on. It has been an honor and pleasure thus far.

talonkarrde88 seems to have a mysterious strategy in play! Welcome back to any or all of the four who come back to the game! Sorry to see the five who have to go - I hope you'll stick around for the Home Game and GR and all!

Perhaps stretching SCI out for longer, seeing as how it means less people move into the main game each week?
Feb. 28th, 2012 02:01 am (UTC)
*nods* And giving one less person a ticket to the main game each week. But WHY??
Feb. 28th, 2012 02:02 am (UTC)
To make people like us go crazy trying to figure out the strategy ;)

I never knew you had such an evil side!!
Feb. 28th, 2012 08:57 am (UTC)
I don't think all conspiracies are evil — but in all seriousness, I am not doing this to be evil, in case that needs to be said :)
Feb. 28th, 2012 12:18 pm (UTC)
Will you eventually tell us why you are doing it?
Feb. 28th, 2012 06:08 pm (UTC)
-rubs his face-

I almost did in my previous comment, except that I felt a bit bothered that I almost felt compelled to defend myself. Loosely, though, I think it comes down to playing the game for different reasons. If someone is just in this to win it, or to race to the top or be the last person out, sure, I can see how this might look like I'm just trying to hold people back. But I don't think that's the only reason people play this game.
Feb. 28th, 2012 07:34 pm (UTC)
You shouldn't have to defend yourself. Seriously, you're not hurting anyone.

I could see the appeal of staying in SCI for as long as possible.

I'm happy to be getting back into the main competition, personally, because the rhythm of things is just off with writing and reading opposite the main group.
Feb. 28th, 2012 08:36 pm (UTC)
There is appeal for staying in as long as possible, and depending what the week is, I might choose to do it as well. However, I feel bad for the person who comes in as #6 which is why I'm not sure how I feel about it, does it make sense?
Feb. 28th, 2012 08:44 pm (UTC)
I guess I could see it if someone were being eliminated over it, like only x number of people could stay in, but that's not happening.

You could say the same thing about someone in the main competition who drops out between polls. If they were going to drop out anyway, then why did the person from last week have to be eliminated? It just happens that way.

I only said something because people shouldn't feel bad for playing the game within the rules, and I wanted to let him know that not everyone thought there was a problem with it.
Feb. 28th, 2012 08:47 pm (UTC)
Good point as well.

I don't think anyone should feel bad for playing the game within the rules.
Feb. 28th, 2012 08:36 pm (UTC)
I want you to see what I wrote, so you don't think I'm a bad person for questioning it.

Feb. 28th, 2012 10:38 pm (UTC)
I most definitely do not think you're a bad person — I don't think having a different way of looking at things is ever cause for thinking ill of you.

I feel bad about #6 too, but to be fair, it's not really my call; if it was, the #6 would take my spot.
Feb. 28th, 2012 02:01 am (UTC)
Sorry to see some have to leave but congrats to those still in the game.
Feb. 28th, 2012 02:08 am (UTC)
Sorry to see those who are leaving us go. There is some incredible talent in this group.

Good luck to all of you moving on to the next round of SCL. Hope to see many of you in the main competition if I get to stick around for a few weeks :)

I also want to thank everyone who reads and comments on my work here. It's not always been an easy choice to write as personally as I do in my Idol work, and I sometimes fear that y'all will get tired of hearing me process. But at the same time it's been a profoundly healing journey to put those words to screen, and to know that I had a deadline each week (whether in main competition or SCL) and the wonderful comments that so many of you leave has kept me at the keyboard through some fairly rough writing experiences. So thank you. And thank you to all of you who share yourselves through your own work.
Feb. 28th, 2012 02:33 am (UTC)
Congrats to the people who moved on!

I FIGURED I was probably going to end up on this list (I seem to fall out whenever I go abstract LOL though I actually like the challenge of trying to write things SHORT). Either way I'm gonna see if I can get something out for erm... the next home game topic (and I might home game SCI AND archive-home-game too [does that make me weird?] for personal reasons -- I have a goal to write over 75k on ANYTHING this year and I like prompts, soooo yup.)
Feb. 28th, 2012 05:26 am (UTC)
that is a worthy and noble goal!
Feb. 28th, 2012 02:45 am (UTC)
I'm just curious. How many times can someone be in the top five and decline to move forward? I'm not trying to be bitchy. It just seems wasteful when someone consistently turns down the spot in the main competition, when other people would really like it.
Feb. 28th, 2012 02:48 am (UTC)
Exactly how I feel
Feb. 28th, 2012 08:43 am (UTC)
Wasteful is certainly one opinion, and I don't begrudge you (or solstice_singer) for thinking this way. That being said, though, i think there are other ways of viewing it.

Feb. 28th, 2012 08:34 pm (UTC)
There totally is :)
Feb. 28th, 2012 03:07 am (UTC)
I feel the same.

Makes me wonder why someone from the other list can't say "Nah, I choose not to be eliminated this week, but thanks for the offer."

Feb. 28th, 2012 03:22 am (UTC)
I know you're joking about people saying "no thanks" to being eliminated. But I'll answer anyway. ;)

As I said in my other comment, there are a variety of reasons why someone might play Second Chance but not want to move up. Or, might not want to move up during a specific week. There is a potential for a strategic move.

By making it optional, I'm giving them the ability to play it however they want to play it. Whereas, moving someone to the main competition if they honestly don't want that, feels wrong.

I don't have it on a ladder system, and if I did, given the tie this time around, neither would have moved up anyway, even if I did.

Feb. 28th, 2012 03:27 am (UTC)
Actually, I was only sort of joking.

Feb. 28th, 2012 03:18 am (UTC)
There is no limit other than an individual choice to accept it or turn it down.

People play SCI for a variety of reasons. Some of them don't actually want to move forward. For some, it might be involve strategy.

I can't say what his reasoning is, he hasn't told me. (Although from what I do know from various seasons, he's not much on "playing strategically" so I suspect there's another reason.

Feb. 28th, 2012 05:30 am (UTC)
I wouldn't move up, unless it was near the end; moving into the middle of a competition heavily based on votes from the people IN the competition means being total newbie and likely getting ignored. Also it means you're competing against people who've been voted up over and over and over. Tough competition. I'm not here to "win" anything necessarily so I like the idea of staying here. Maybe if I'd been in Idol before and knew more of the writers I'd feel more comfortable about it, but IF i were in the top five, I would choose to stay here. At least until there's less competition in main Idol.
Feb. 28th, 2012 08:42 am (UTC)
I believe the reasoning here is quite strategically sound, even if it doesn't quite apply to me ;)
Feb. 28th, 2012 03:24 am (UTC)
Well... That's what I get for not doing fiction this week. I know fiction is more my strength. Thank you everyone for your encouraging comments. I love getting comments from people who are reading my work.

Congrats to everyone who is moving on. There were seriously some good entries this week.
Feb. 28th, 2012 03:55 am (UTC)
I won't lie, I'm really disappointed to be leaving this week. I'm sad that SCI has to involve eliminations as well as the main game, but there you have it.
Feb. 28th, 2012 03:38 pm (UTC)
I hope you keep writing about Gwen.

longchamp outlet online
But what if you actually reside in coach outlet 2012 that doesn't have entry to these sorts of coach outlet online store? Don't fret to the reason that there are in actuality weeks using the twelve weeks when coach products and companies go coach outlet online even within your nearby high-end stores. This generally requires place all through holidays once they restock new merchandise and get rid within of the preceding year's coach outlet. Sit back and watch out for this particular time period to the reason that that is when you'll reach ascertain discounts 50% or more coach outlet coupons. So you'd much better start producing strategies to the coachs purse, longchamp handbags or coach crossbody bags you've invariably preferred but in no way obtained the opportunity to purchase to the reason that it experienced been priced as well high coach outlet.
